Whats the difference? from what I can tell there both 2.4Ghz 1mb cache parts?
Socket 754
A64 XP3400 (2.20Ghz, 1Mb Cache, 400FSB) Clawhammer Core
A64 XP3400 (2.40Ghz, 512K Cache, 400FSB) Newcastle Core
A64 XP3700 (2.4Ghz, 1Mb Cache, 400 FSB) Clawhammer Core
Socket 939
A64 XP3700 (2.20Ghz, 1Mb Cahce, 400FSB) San Diego Core
A64 XP3800 (2.40Ghz, 512Kb Cache, 400FSB) Newcastle Core
A64 XP3800 (2.40Ghz, 512Kb Cache, 400FSB) Venice Core
A64 XP4000 (2.40Ghz, 1Mb Cache, 400FSB) Clawhammer Core
A64 XP4000 (2.40Ghz, 1Mb Cache, 400FSB) San Diego Core
There the same, I think, but there on different sockets, and with 754 not having dual channel controller, itll be slower, so probably warrents the slightly slower xp3700
The xp3700 venice on 939 should be 2.2ghz?

Yep, though in benchies a 3700+ Clawhammer, would more than likely be faster than a 3700+ SD at stock, being 200mhz higher.
San Diegos have that make faster AMD wizadry. Called someting. I dont really know. Its past my bed time.
You had an FX55 that broke, sold, lost or gave away????? Hexus recently had a venice 3000 go to 2.8 on air (albeit past 300 HTT). I've seen somewhere a 3700+ SD go to 3Gig but atm can't think where I've seen that. Will look later 4 u.Originally Posted by Platinum

RGone @ DFI-Street had a 3700@3000MHz on an XP-90c.
My 3700+ is everyday stable at 2.75GHz and runs nicely at 2.8GHz but sometimes falls over

The S754 3700 is 2.4GHz with 1mb cache (and single channel memory obviously), the S939 3700 is 2.2GHz (with dual channel mem).
As for overclocks, there probably isn't enough in it to justify an extra hundred quid for the 4000, but overclocking is always luck of the draw anyway.
I've tested (3) 3700+ San Diegos and all of them could do at least 2830MHz 24/7 stable on air. My FX-55's will do better, but not enough to justify the price in my opinion. As Rave says, it really is a lot of luck. I think you'll be very pleased with a 3700+ San Diego, especially for the price. Can't beat the value.
