    Spec me a machine

Right - my bro wants me to build him a new PC. He has a keyboard/mouse/monitor. Just wants a decent spec machine that he can do work on (exchange, VPN and stuff - general office stuff) and some gaming (modern era).

    Was thinking of

    NF7-S
    AMD Sempron something
    1GB 3200 RAM
    ATI 9800 Pro

    Thoughts?

REALLY? I tot AXP's price are already rock bottom... let alone an NF7-S.. will probably cost less than 100 quids getting both the CPU and mobo... socket 754 are pretty good substitute for socket A's... if u have that extra juice to shell out...

indeed i just got a secondhand dfi nf3 ut and an a64 3200 clawhammer for £100 inc postage from a chap on these here forums. of course thats only if secondhand is an option.

otherwise you can get an a64 for £80 odd and a motherboard for £40 if you shop around. i having just done this upgrade from a barton 2600 i think its well worth it

I'd go with S754 and PCI-E personally just for future upgradeability and/or resale value- the ECS Nforce4 S754 board can be had for under £60 now:

    http://www.kelkoo.co.uk/ctl/do/searc...e&catId=111101.

As for a PCI-E graphics card to go in it- Geforce 6600 or moddable 6200.

Dabeeeenster - you can probably pick up a system similar to that in the second hand forums as the trusty nf7 + xp2500 was very popular, give the hexusites a budget and we'll come good for ya.
