    Lightbulb What about VIA Eden?

I'm surprised that everyone goes for the Shuttle Systems - surely some people want to build a nice quiet and small box to do basic things like DHCP, internet connection sharing and file sharing?

VIA Eden Motherboards are similar creatures to the Shuttles, some of the lower power ones don't require fans on the heatsink which is quite nice. You can also buy fanless power supplies for such beasties.

If you google for "mini itx" you can find lots of websites about them. Just surprised that not much is spoken about them.

Slow, and relativeley expensive. I think thats probably the main reasons why most people dont bother?

Why bother with a DHCP internet sharing eden box when a £40 router does the same job, and more, with no noise and no moving parts, and has a built in 4 port switch?

File server, why not use your main PC. Print server, who honestly at home hast a big enough network for a print server . The money you spend on that you could get webhosting on a 100Mbps pipe for like a few years rather than strugling with a <256Kbps upstream.

    Thats why

We've got a fileserver and a print server on our home network.

    - The file server is convent, becuase you can access any of your files (5 of us) from any of the PCs, all the time.
    - And we use it to browes the web occatially too.

    - The print server is the same, you can dont have to keep turning the PC in the office on, just becuase you want to print of somthing. And its only £20, so why the f** not? - go mad!

Also, im looking to replace the servers mobo with a Eden 500 board, as the current on is flaking, and it all makes too much noise!
