Angry Did I get the worst Venice in the world?

I got my Venice 3000+ yesterday. They went out of 0515 and 0517. So that I ended up with a 0518.

    I got a DFI NF4-D and 2*1G of Corsair.

I pushed the LDT down to 1x, ram to DDR200, voltage to 1.5V. What should I expect...

I pushed up the FSB from 200 to 210, fine. from 210 to 220, fine. from 220 to 230, it will go into bios but it won't even boot into memtest.
I can't believe my Venice can't get a FSB HIGHER THAN MY RAM. My Corsair could do 225-2.5-3-3-7 DC. The top I could get is 2061Mhz, not anything higher than that.

Sure I'm only using stock cooler, but it can't be doing that CRAP.

I doubt I could even sell this chip because it can't even CLOCK 20% FASTER, even with all other settings at minimum.

I'm still formatting my Seagate 300G SATA now but I doubt it will get better in windows.

I could push the voltage down to 1.2V at stock fsb and it can still boot into memtest and run properly. Going to make sure it can run that low when I have my XP installed.

p.s. god, why 300G hdds take so much time to format.

Anyone can recommend me any good code, I may consider getting another Venice.

Please give me a list of codes (probably need 20) of Venice 3000/3200+ which could get to at least 2.3Ghz odd, I'll try to search in local place.

Wondering will anyone like a venice that wouldn't overclock, and one which may not be able to run low voltage. Make this as a price check thread as well

    New System Spec:
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 0518xxxx (I still don't have time to check it)
    DFI NF4-D @ Ultra SLI
    2x1G Corsair DDR400 3-3-3-8
    Seagate 7200.8 300G SATA
And a 480W PSU of my local brand. Voltage is stable although slightly lower than standard value.

    Thanks everyone.

looking at other places on the net I have seen variable results for 0518 codes, with people getting high and low scores, but none as low as yours (i.e. nowhere near as low)

I'll check the exect cpu code when I finish my XP installation later.

This is what makes me panic. I've never see anyone getting LESS THAN 2.3Ghz, let alone 2.1Ghz.

I had a bad experience getting cheap stuff. Whenever I get a cheap CPU, they die easily or they don't clock. When I get cheap PSU (by cheap I mean 30 quids), they screw my harddrives. Whenever I buy cheap harddrives, they die easily. Since then I've never buy any cheap stuff, when I was about to ask my friend to get me some dual opterons, they OOS, now I get screwed by this 3000+ again.

I'm being desperate now. Does luck keep away from one?

Have you tried using dividers to up the fsb but keep the ram at 200mhz?

Best place to ask about this would be www.dfi-street.com, its the official dfi forums and the people there generally love answering questions

hmn.. interesting.. did u lock ur PCI-E/PCI ratio?

try lowering ur Vcore... You shoudn't need that much voltage unless you're going higher than 280Mhz HTT... If stability didn't set in after 1.45V... any more wouldnt help on such low OC..

How hot is your system running? Previously I installed the stock heat sink with the so called 'thermal pad'... so ended up my system only ran 250HTT... anymore, stuff will begin to crash.. temperatures shot pass 75C on 270HTT.. get sum of those thermal grease.. works much better..

try raising ur nb voltage as well... If you already locked your PCI-E/PCI ratio... try raising it to 70MHz... rather than the vanilla setting at 66MHz... 220MHz on a venice is WAY too low... the one i tried on K8T800 only starts to act wierd when I tried to hit 300MHz HTT... and yea... you could try locking FSB dividers to hold ur DRAM FSB at 400MHz... Try not to throw too much off LDT multiplier.. 3x is low enough...

CPU temperature at 36'C, 38 on PWM and 42 on NF4 chip

I don't have access to windows yet so I'm only doing oc in bios and using the onboard memtest86

I've now got CPU at 1.475V, 3X LDT, 4:3 RAM, 2T Command, ram at 3-3-3-3-8 DC

I don't have any PCI device attached and I don't see PCI Lock setting so I assume it is locked?

The 3X and 1T trick seems to help a bit the moment, running memtest86 at 240FSB, but I doubt its can be an indication of stability. Memory error out at 240FSB (I think its mem controller problem, since ram is running at 180Mhz only). Pushing from 1.425 to 1.5 would not help it

LDT, Chip, at +0.2V, Mem at +0.3, CPU at 1.5 , still trying to get error-free memtest.

    Thanks everyone, I'll keep trying.

250FSB won't boot into memtest. Guess i won't be breaking into 2.2Ghz. Doubt 2.1 will be possible when I do get in windows.

I would pop over to DFI-street or Xtremesystems as I find it hard to believe that you can't even get to 2.2GHz. Quite possibly some settings need tweaked.

You could probably flash a newer version bios.... I'm sure DFI has PCI-E Mhz lock... You can't really overclock correctly with ur pehripheral controller clock jumping all over the place... I'm sure newer version of bios would let u lock the PCI-E/PCI clock..

Alias to BUFF... I'll be damned if a 3000+ venice can't breach 2.1Ghz... 2.6Ghz maybe.. but 2.1Ghz i way to absurd...

    OK that's perfect.
Windows will crash at 2070Mhz prime95 at stock voltage.

Upgrading to SP2, going to try bios update and ntune after that.
    Board running 6.00 BIOS!!!

There are some good guides to athlon 64 overclocking here

    http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=9

I'd start with them and if they don't work posting on dfi-street is probably the best option
