    Question Dual DDR on K8NXP-SLI

I'm having trouble trying to get the dual channel memory to work on my gigabyte K8NXP-SLI mobo. I placed my memory into slots 1 and 2 as stated in the manual, but the system will not boot. I also tried slot combination of 3 and 4, and yet still my system will not boot. I do have identical memory storage sizes(2x512MB). The only combination that works with 2 sticks in is 1 and 3, but this is not dual channel. Has anyone else come across this problem and if so how did you resolve it?

    Thanks

I ran across a similar issue with my GA-7A8DW. Are you using identical sticks? i.e. same chip layout etc? If so, do you have the latest BIOS for your board?

One stick has chips on both side the other does not. Does that make a difference?

It can do; dual channel on a lot of boards will require that the memory be indentical in terms of chip layout etc. Some boards won't do DC with certain layouts at all.

You don't necessarily have to pay a premium for a specific "TwinXtrememDualMultiChannelMojo" pack; two identical DIMMs from a reasonable manufacturer ought to do nicely. Crucial, Corsair, hell, my old NF7S at home has been running for yonks with a pair of TwinMOS sticks (OK, the Winbond ones), and they're not a dual-channel kit.
