    SSSSSShhhhhhh stupid shuttle

    Hi peeps

i have a shuttle SN41G2 which i use as a media centre shame is it bloody noisey now there 2 fans in it 1 80mm at the back and one on the motherboard think it might be a 40mm

could someone please confirm these fan sizes and also recommend some silent fans for it?

the pc doesnt do much so heat aint really a problem.

    Cheers in advance

    Hello Curfish

I also use a shuttle as an HTPC and have tried to silence it. Replaced the 8 cm fan with a Pabst and disconnected the 4 cm fan. It did not make much difference as its the power supply fans that make most of the noise on my unit. Hopefully I can replace it soon with a silent mini itx system.

Kustom sell the SilenX range of PSUs, and some of those work in SFF cases. That might help; give 'em a bell and see what they'd recommend?

I've got the same shuttle and have done the following mods.

Change the 40mm fan in the 200W PSU to a ADDA one, much quieter than the original and quieter than the 250W SilentX.
Replace the NB HSF with a Zalman
Cut out the rear grill and remove the 80mm fan, attach a 120mm fan to the back of the shuttle with a 80mm -> 120mm adapter and use the SilenX 14db fan.
