Cheapest cost per page b/w printer

As per title really. We want to print out large amounts of Java project documentation for reference at work. I'm not so bothered about initial outlay, but I want the cheapest cost per page (i.e. toner). Prolly some sort of laser, right?

Definitely laser, for large scale printing.

I would always recommend HP LaserJet printers over any other, due to reliabilty and easy availability of parts but different people will no doubt contradict me :-)

What sort of volume are you looking to print out?

I agree with Dooms - get a cassette loading printer.

The cost per page ratio goes down the higher model you get, but a few hundred pages a month is nothing really.

Probably something like the 1300 series would be ideal for you. They're rated for several thousand pages per month. Probably looking at 1 - 1.5p per page for something like that.

Looking on the HP site, you're looking at a basic Laserjet 1320 for £195. High capacity toner cartridge (average 6,000 pages) = £79, which equals 1.3p per page for your toner cost. cost of paper on top of course.

I've had a Laserjet 1200 series for the last 4 years at uni, for the same kind of purposes, the cartridge it came with ran out at 3500 pages.
I would seriously recommend it to anyone, it took me 10 mins to print my dissertation, whereas some people were waiting hours in print queues or waiting for inkjets.

Never had a problem, easy to load, carry, plug in etc.

That's what I use on my desk at work too. People are put off by the initially higher cost of a laser printer. I think i've nearly managed to convince my stepdad that he should invest in a laser printer for work rather than putting up with his slow and expensive inkjet.
