Help?? PSU for MSI / Gigabyte K8N NF 4 SLI

Hi there,

Just joined this forum while I was as looking for some online answers regarding my planned first home build pc.

Building it myself, should be half of the fun

Hope any of you guys or girls can help me out? I would appreciate any advice:

I am considering either one of the following motherboards:

Gigabyte K8N Pro SLi nForce4 / MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra

I like the Antec SLK1650B case very much but I understand the 350 watt PSU won't be sufficient for my set up. Does anybody know if the PSU can be changed easily and if so which one I should get for the following set up?

AMD 64 3000+ / 2 x 512 MB / 2 x HD / DVDRW / CDRW / 1 X PCIE NVIDEA 660OGT / CREATIVE SB /

Also, I am planning to use this PC as well for some video editing (no ripping), does anybody have any comments or suggestions on the mentioned graphics card for this use?

For the PSU, I heartily recommend Tagan. Mine has been fine for quite a few months now, and I found nothing but good reviews on the internet and on this very forum.

The graphics card is a mid range card, so it would be fine for any game so long as you don't turn up the resolution and AA. If you're not doing much gaming, I personally wouldn't use anything higher.

I'd say Tagan as well. Very happy with my TG480-U01 version. Very quiet and more importantly very stable.

If the case comes with an Antec PSU than it'd probably handle that system. PSUs are easy to change, though, yes.

I like the Antec Neopower 480 and the OCZ Modstream 520. The modular supplies offer the cleanest wiring and large quiet 120mm fans for cooling.

I am worried though about the dimensions, 15.0(w) x 8.6(h) x 16.0(l),
as the PSU in the Antec case has dimensions of 13.84(w) x 8.64(h) x 15.0(l)
Am I going to be able to fit the Tagan in the Antec SLK1650B case?

I did check out other cases of Antec with more powerful PSU's but the SLK1650B is the one I like best but I'm afraid the 350 watt v1 PSU will not be sufficient for handling the system I like (939 MOBO, AMD 64 3000+ / 2 x 512 MB / 2 x HDD / 1 x DVDRW / 1 x CDRW / 1 X PCIE NVIDEA 660OGT / CREATIVE SB)

I recon 350 would be ok with that, as long as you dont have to much else going on. You could alwase give it a go and upgrade the PSU /if/ you need to.

If that's all you will ever run and you don't overclock at all then 350 watts should be fine. If you plan on running SLI or dual core, or adding fans and lights, or extreme overclocking, or you get a 6800GT or higher I'd suggest 480 watts minimum.

Keep your eyes open guys for the new series of Tagan that will be introduced in the next couple of weeks or so. The Tagan EasyCon series will be a modular PSU!!!
