Okay so I bought the parts and put together a new rig for my parents and I am setting it up. When i try to start it up the computer won't boot or do anything. The CPU fan won't start and nothing runs at all. At first I thought maybe something with the PSU but the southbridge chipset heats up and I haven't checked the northbridge but at least i know there is power to the motherboard. Anyone have any quick ideas that i might be able to try? Thanks!

Do you mean remove the mobo and try to boot it not in the case?
yep.
i always boot new rigs on a box by shorting out the pins with a screwdriver (less dangerous than it sounds). That way you know everything is ok, and any problems would be from shorting (which is common).
EDIT: yeah that was it. now my problem is how do i find and fix the short?
should i just try not screwing it very tight to the case?

its quite hard to find a short, basically screw it into the case with the bare minimum of screws then add more till it doesnt boot.
My mate had a similar problem on an Asus A8V with the bottom left hand screw, he took that out and its perfect.
i think the mobo might have been touching the case. i put in just the bottom right screw cuz thats where that hot chip was and it was shorting again so i stuck some cardboard behind there to hold it away and then screwed it in and now it works, at least with that screw. Thanks very much i think it should work from here on out =)
