    watercooling temperature rise

From the asus thermal reading (which i know might count for nothing) my processor sits at 35'C under normal use and under load (dual prime) it is about 39'C.

I have no concern over this, im happy with these temperatures but i just think its odd that it takes less than a minute to jump from the idle to the load temp then remains constant for hours.

I expected a much more gradual increase due to the 2 litres of water flowing round my system. Is there a chance i havent got a great contact with the waterblock or is this rapid jump within normal limits?

    Thanks

What are your ambient temps? 39C is great for full load on any CPU.

Well this is with my dual radiator watercooling system outside of the case with the case open (its a work in progress). I am very happy with 39'C full load on a prescott 3.9ghz with 1.55v going through it. I just thought it was odd how it jumps straight up a few degrees, i thought the rise would be gradual.

Actually, thinking about it 39'C is far too low, im choosing not to trust this sensor at all. Ill have a look for a proper one and measure it myself later.

Hmmm I would just check the down pressure and adjust if neccessary. I always noticed a jump after a while if I didn't hoover off the rad

Well i have just updated the antiquated bios and things seem more like i expected, is this my imagination or do they alter the temperature probes readout?

Anyway, now it starts off aorund 35'C then gradually keeps raising to a maximum of 42'c, no jumps or anything. I think this is more realistic. Im not bothered that my load temp appears 3'C higher as i didnt trust it before and im assuming the actual temperature is still miles off that reading.

If your temps were like 60C plus it might be a concern, but not 42C. Is that full load?

Its at 3.9ghz, 1.55v under full load for about an hour and a quater running two instances of prime 95 (for each 'core' on my hyperthreaded prescott) and it hovers around 41-42'C.

Im not concerned at all, i was just curious as to why it was behaving like that. Its all fine now.

A jump within seconds is quite normal with any form of cooling.

That's good. Cores? Funny! Comparing HT to dual core? That's like comparing two Ferraris to one BMW chopped into two bits.

However funny you think it is they are still count as 2 cores (albeit logical and not physical).

And the BMW is two cars, right? Or is it one cut into two pieces?

Maybe you'd be correct if you said it was two half-cores. I don't think you'll get many people to buy into the theory that CPUs with HT are dual core, but good luck to you.

Thats not at all what i was suggesting. The only thing that i know dumb enough to think my cpu has 2 cores is windows xp, but that was all that i was saying. I needed to run prime 95 twice to get full load. As it happens i only use HT for testing as it slows everything down and reduces stability.

Firstly im appalled at my grammar, secondly i was being pedantic and pointing out that my cpu has 2 logical cores. Do you deny that my processor has 2 logical cores?

Core is not accurate. Perhaps "logical execution units" would be better.
