mobo cpu advice needed

Hi folks, i'm putting a new machine together, so far have chosen:

MOBO: Abit NF7-S v2.0 nForce2 (Socket A) Motherboard (MB-028-AB)

PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon "Thoroughbred" XP 2600+ 333FSB (Socket A) CPU - OEM (CP-030-AM)

MEMORY: Corsair TWINX3200LL which should run at 400MHz??

are the above all well compatible and can anyone recommend a good SATA HD for the mobo and a case that this board fits neatly into?

i can recommend a 2500+ barton instead of the 2600+, they are about £65 and voerclock to about 2.5ghz if ur lucky

the rams fien for that mobo

case depends on what u like.. ive just got a cheap biege case but with lots of mods so it looks a lot nicer than most

for sata harddisks get a maxtor one... try to get a 120gb or bigger, with 8mb cache model so that u can have the 3year warrenty instead of one year

cool but does that mobo definately take the bartons? i thought it was athlon XPs only?

Yeah get a Barton 2500+ imo.
Had one at 2400mhz b4 and a 2600+ could only do 2100mhz stable

That board will run the Bartons with no trouble and you will get very good OCing results with it as well.

The memory is also a good choice and 400Mhz is the default speed for it so it will more than likely go way past that mark.

I'll vouch for the 2500+ (I've got one in my nf7-s) - v. good value for the performance.

There are two routes you can take. the steel or the aluminum.

I had a £30 steel one, with the temperatures at about 50/60 degrees. This had a generic 300watt PSU. It was not good.

I recently got a Lian-li PC-60, with a 450watt levicom PSU. and have not been dissappointed. It has taken about 10/20 degrees (depending on the oc..) and is quiter. It came with 4 fans too

Yes - I've got one that can only do just over 2GHz and no more, but I think all the one's at www.cpucity.co.uk have the stepping listed, so just find out if that stepping is a good one (I think they only stock one's which are). If there's anywhere else that can guarantee to supply you with an exact chip then try there to (if anyone knows anywhere else).
