    SN25P & Athlon X2

    I am a proud owner of a Shuttle SN25P, well it doesn't have a processor and hasn't been put together but will have a 7800GTX and 2gigs of Patriot PC3200 2-3-2-5 and a 10krpm 74gb and 7.2krpm 400gb along with dvd-rw, tv card, blah blah ....

Is an AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+ going to cause a big explosion or should it work a treat?

    Cheers,

    ShMeE

How much space is there in the shuttles? The 7800's are pretty long cards.

The next big questing is can the PSU take it! What wattage is it? Also think about space for tv cards and the like, as the 7800's heatisnk will take up most of the spare space.

The other majour issue is heat! You might need to mod the case with a blow hole or soemting to keep it cool enough for that hot hardware.

From my searching, I got the impression that it would fit - do a google search for shuttle sn25p 7800 and you find a result along the lines of bend a capacitor and it goes in.

Apparantly the Shuttle 350W is very good and does a good job similar to a normal 500W one if not better.

Heat is an issue, I'll work on that one!

If you didnt want to mod the case you could go for water cooling. Otherwise i think putting blowhole fans in the top of shuttles and the like is quite popular.

I have seen a 7800GTX in an SN25P working great , all that was needed was a little file work on the plastic shroud that covers the CPU zone at the end of the slot.

Hang on, just found a Sudhian thread where the guy has done just this (with pics) here . TV card may be a tight fit though .

Also, as you have an nForce4 Shuttle have you considered an NCQ aware disk lik e the Seagate Barracuda 7200? I find the performance not that far from the WD 10'000s and there a lot less noisy and cooler .

Another note, the PSU in the SN25P is up to the job of your rig, no problems but you really need the latest BIOS to resolve the chunk of X2 issues Shuttle currently have been ironing out.

Thank you very much for that link

It's very interesting having read the thread that one guy has an FX55 and an exceptionally high system running overclocked stably in the Shuttle and that makes me feel vastly more relieved!

    Thanks,

If it helps I have an FX55 at just under 3G's in an SN95G5V2 and it's nice and stable. Shame Shuttle stuffed up the S939 upgrade path on that model with no rev. E and X2 CPU support. That SN95 has a 6800 GT in it and the 250W SilentX PSU (the 350 IS better).
