is this a good config?

hi and sorry for my bad english
i'd like to buy a SFF pc and i've tried to make a config with high performance
but i never assembled a barebone so first i would know some opinion.
here's the components:


shuttle XPC SN25P
AMD athlon64 4000+ San Diego
2 X 512Mb corsair 400Mhz
Western digital 36Gb 10000 rpm (system)
maxtor IDE 133 160Gb (data)
DVD - RW LiteON 16X
Sapphire radeon X850XT PCI-E or Leadtec GeF. 6800GT


here's the questions:
maybe the Shuttle's heatpipe isn't enough for san diego 4000+ ?
is the built in SATA controller a bottle neck for the hd 10000rpm ?
what do you think about a radeon vga in achipset Nforce 4 ?
is 6800gt a better choice than the x850xt ?
someone can tell me how many noise generate the sn25p in db ?

The heatpipe will have no problems with the San Diego. Check with the Shuttle website for compatable CPU's.

Both run at SATA150 so it shouldn't be a problem.

No issues what-so-ever with running ATI gfx with an NForce 4 chipset

The X850XT is more powerful, but costs a lot more than the 6800GT, which is going very cheap at the moment.

Don't know the db values. But it's a very quiet machine

As for your component list. The raptor is a quick drive, but noisy, and the 74Gb is meant to be better than the 36Gb (from what i've read). If it was my money i would change the IDE data drive for a SATA drive.

The shuttle's heatpipe out-performs even high-end Zalman coolers so, believe me, it has no problem with San Diego 4000s.
the SATA controller will be fine with your raptor - the raptor has very fast sek times NOT sustained data transfer rates.
A radeon card will have no problems with an nVidia chipset
The X850XT will perform marginally better (especially with an overclock) and the cooler on it is much quieter than the 6800GT stock junk.
SN25Ps tend to be pretty noisy compared to some systems simply because of the high-spec nature of the machine and number of fans. I don't have figures - these should be available on the shuttle main site. At low speeds the fans are quiet but AFAIK they quickly ramp up.
I would ditch the maxtor backup drive, it's hot and noisy - not a good combination for a shuttle. A seagate or samsung spinpoint will be much quieter without the heat (samsung spinpoint 250gig is the daddy due to 2x125mb platters).
Place the raptor on the lowest drive bay and the other on the top, this gives them some needed space as the raptor will most likely run hot (nothing to worry about, I've seen systems with twin raptors in a RAID).
If you want to overclock your very sexy CPU (and you should!) get some higher-end RAM like the XMS. 2 gig will give you a nice advantage with media editing or gaming (BF2 really NEEDS 2 gig believe me!).
