why not nforce2?

KT600 shoudl be fie but with nForce2 being so cheap now there really is no point in straying from nForce2. Dabs do a nF2 400 mobo for £40 and their cheapest Dual Channel version is £60. I have to say VIA were only so popular for so long because they offerred unrivaled o/c'ing options, but they were very quirky and tempremental. Now nForce2 are here and cheap, there's no point in being a VIA beta tester.

The Soyo seems to have all that you need if you do want KT600 though so long as it can adjust the multiplier (or choose the CPU wisely). Be sure the RAM you choose is on the compatibility list.

ive always liked the look of the soyo boards and the spec of them, have always had via boards and never really had any problems with them so far. what n force board would you recommend.

I'll second that - I've had no problems with my nf7-s, and at least there are a ton of people out there with them if you have any problems (which you shouldn't ). It's the best mobo I've ever had for sure.

I like my new Gigabyte k7 Triton 400 7VAXP Ultra not had n e probs with that one.......yet. plus gigabyte mobos v.gd for clocking....... or so i hear!

Pretty much any nForce2 mobo is a great option, obviously IGP (integrated GF4MX graphics) aside. There are 3 main versions you can get, nForce2 (original), nForce2 400 and nForce2 Ultra400. The original version only supported 400FSB unofficially, the '400' lacks Dual Channel ability (hurts perf 5%ish) and the Ultra400 has both certified 400FSB ability and Dual Channel support (use 2 sticks of RAM). The two top nForce2 mobos are Abit NF7-S and Asus A7N8X Deluxe although there are plenty of other excellent alternatives. The '-S' and 'Deluxe' primarily mean you get the works including nVidia's wonderful audio (MCP-T/Soundstorm vs classic onboard of MCP). Gigabyte make fine mobos and I really liked my 7VAX (KT400) but it had a few quirks most notably problems with the early AGP8x cards. Many people use VIA with no trouble ... but many do or did use them with plenty and there's no doubt they have the worst record BUT most of that could be due to people seriously o/c'ing them for so long. In any case nForce2 is really the only option at the mo, alternatives would need to be half the price in order to compete (and they aren't).

If you buy PC3200 and an AthlonXP2500+ (always Barton based) you don't even need to worry about advanced o/c'ing options as the stock voltage and multiplier give you plenty of room for o/c'ing with a 400FSB capable mobo (esp nForce2 which have a PCI/AGP locked). Still nice to have the options on the mobo of course.
