What is your objective?

If best equals cheap, then stock probably.

If best equals best performance then XP-120 is hard to beat.

If you just want high performance without spending much something like a TT Venus 12 or BigTypoon work really well, although the Venus 12 is a bit loud at highest settings.

I'm looking to spend under £25-30, I was thinking about the Akasa Evo33, is this any good?

Hi all , i run a socket 939 set up and i have used both the xp-120 coolers and the xp 90 c copper based cooler, to be honest i found that the xp 90 c actually performed better than its xp 120 counter part, currently i,m running an athlon 64 3500 venice core over clocked to 2600 mhz with desktop temperatures hovering comfortabley around 36-37 c desk top and no higher than 45-47 c under full load.
The one problem i found with the xp120 was that as i run an abit uguru board the heat pipes from the cooler stuck out over dimms 1 and 2 which prevented me from running the ram in dual channel, so if you where leaning towards the xp120 i,d advice checking the compatibility of it with your board, i hope this has helped

There hasn't been much bad critisism of the akasa pro 33 and it usually keeps up with the much heavier and larger hyper 6 from coolermaster. Only under the heavy loads with a highly clocked processor does it loose out by about 3°C. Not bad i don't think for a budget cooler.

Although the thermaltake XP series are good after you have bought it you need to buy a fan as well as it doesn't have one with it. This isn't great for people on a budget, however they are pritty good at cooling.

I would keep away from the coolermaster range at the moment,

I have the hyper 6, very loud, not the best and since my system fell over the retention bracket broke and Coolermaster don't seem to have technical support!

Im stuck between getting a XP-120 with a nice big 38mm thick high pressure panaflo fan, or a XP90c with a 92mm 25mm thick fan.

Will be cooling a 4400+ and ill be overclocking.

Evo 33 / Akasa AK-913 (they are the same thing just it is known in many different names!)

It was cheap, and has space for 2 silent 80mm fans in a push pull config.

I bought it, and with my venice 3000+ @ 2520Mhz it is running 32degrees idle and 42 (max) load, but that was on a very hot day, mobo was 38 or something!

Not bad me thinks

On idle it cools to the ambient Temperature

The new Akasa HSF looks good as well..... but I haven't found it for sale anywhere yet
