    World's fastest processor.

Which is the world's fastest processor in terms of clock speed, without being overclocked?

If you only mean Single Core I believe its FX57 (59?)

Fastest Clock speed is the Intel, 3.8Ghz. But GHz doesn't mean this is the most powerful.
The AMD FX57 is more powerful than it.

Its really a question of what you use the CPU for. Although the Intel P4 generation have received some slack lately for being 'slower' than the AMD competition this simply isn not true under some circumstances. The netburst architecture is very efficient for video encoding and streaming etc.

AMD's Athlon/64 architecture is very fast in gaming and works better in SMP as its designed for this use from the ground up.

What are you planning on doing with the processor and we can give you more pointers.

If you look closely he's not asking that at all.

This is a very misleading thread. The topic says "World's Fastest Processor" as if it is going to tell us something we don't know. Then he says fastest "in terms of clock speed without overclocking" which has nothing to do with the thread title. He should have specified clock speed in the title. My guess is he didn't because it would have been a silly title and nobody would have read it.

The highest production stock clocked CPUs are the P4 3.8GHz chips.

The most powerful single CPU for single threaded applications is the FX-57 by far. The most powerful single CPU for multithreaded apps is the X2 4800+. If you use more than one chip then the Opteron dual cores are monsters.

A bit misleading that unless you mean the fastest available for normal purchase.
Most powerful is a whole new ballgame with everybody from IBM to Sun added into the game and those Power5`s are some pieces of kit believe me. Add to them the current crop of Crays with cryonic cooling for cpu and memory (very exotic architecture) and you need deep pockets.
However, Power5`s are just about within some peoples pockets that I know. So how`d you fancy your next gaming rig at a starter price of £22,000 ? And it has dual graphics as well as 16Gb of ultra fast memory and 2 Tb of highspeed fibre channel.
Believe it or not, it has been used for playing Halo 2 on and very well it does.

Yes, but if it's 4 times faster then it's a pretty good value.

I would like to build P.C which performs better for gaming than other things. So what should be the ideal config.
