well whats your mobo choice then? yes it would be compatiable as at the end of the day its just PC3200 memory so it will work on any DDR based system. Its not gonna have an allergic reaction and blow up is it?

hi
if you read the dfi street and msi forums
theres a zillion ram problem posts
it could not boot
not run dual channel
not be stable
etc....
That could happen with any RAM sticks. Yes I do read the DFI Street forums and do know the problems as I had them.
The only way to make sure they work together is too get them and try them.
You still haven't said what mobo your after....

I would usually try to get ram that has chips on it known for their overclock, for example:
BH5/6, CH5/6, TCCD, and the newer BH-5 stuff.
Theres an issue with the AMD64 mem controlers, which prevent using 4 sticks if comand rate is not set at 2T - so it is worth considering getting 1gb sticks if you ever want to have more than 1gb.
Unfortunatly I dont think any of the decent chips are used in 1gb sticks, but I know crucial sell some resonably good 1gb sticks.
Other than that, usually its just a case of setting the right voltage, timings and clockspeed - but there are some sticks that will have isues with certian motherboards for no obvious reson.
On my dfi nf4 Im currently using 2x 512mb BH-5, and 2x 512mb TCCD, which run fine at 2-3-3-7 upto 229mhz at stock voltage. More voltage doesnt help so I assume the problem is either themem controler or imcompatability between the two different types of ram chips when used together.

sorry forgot to tell mobo
msi k8n neo4 platinum

if interested will post link to replies
thanx for replies
The MSI Neo4 Plat sucks. The only thing worse is MSI's RMA dept.Originally Posted by automaton

The Asus A8N-E is the only non-SLI S939 board I will put in my systems. It is by far the best. Also, boards don't overclock, overclockers do. An overclocker can make any board perform well if he's ever seen a soldering iron.
The Asus A8N-E is faster than my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum, and it actually works. Solid as a rock, better BIOS options and overclocks much better right out of the box with none of the quirks that MSI has become famous for. Also, I don't know if you've had any experience with MSI's RMA department, but they truly suck!

The DFI has problems, but I would consider them all minior.. Ive set up 2 pcs with the dfi and I dont think it could really be improved apon on at the hardware level. The bios could do with some work but then Im using the original bios and theres been plenty of others since then - including ones with memtest86 built in
Im not saying its the best though, as I havent used any other S939 boards...

A motherboard without a BIOS is pretty useless isn't it?
They all use pretty much the same hardware.
Have to say that the DFI is a joy once it is set up correctly and you follow the setup guides that AG and RG have done at DFI-Street.
People with problems are generally down to bad setups (i.e. under powered PSUs, shorting out etc) and very rarely down to faulty hardware.
Mine was a pig to setup but once I found that perfect setup as suggested by AG it ran real smooth and was dead easy to OC.
I prefer AWARD bios's to Pheonix ones as well (assuming the asus uses them still)

If the BIOS is not good then the motherboard is not good. Geeeezzz...do i really have to connect the dots?Originally Posted by |SilentDeath|

I like Gigabyte. I've had very good luck with them. They are my second favorite next to Asus for reliability and features. They've made a couple of clunkers, but most of their A64 boards have been pretty solid.
