silent, effective cooling (not water!) for my mobo!

My stock fan is kicking up a load of noise on my MSI Neo2 Plat. and before it dies suddenly I want to do something about it. so I'm looking around for a QUIET alternative. . . I know there's loads out there - and some heatsink/fan combos are not suitable because of restricted space, with that in mind does anyone have an idea as to which are suitable?

If so, all I have done is fanmated it to 5volts, it is silent and my PC is working fine even in this hot weather.

eh? how did you do that? just turn the voltages going to the fan to 5v? I take it theres a switch in the bios that enables this...?
I'm just thinking the fan itself is knackerd though so will probably need replacing.

Err, the chipset fan is just plugged into the motherboard like a normal fan, just put a fanmate imbetween and turn the nob down to 5volts.



Actually instead of mine being plugged into a Fan mate, it is plugged into the molex undervolting thing that came with my VF-700Cu, I originally had a fanmate doing it but it was getting a bit cramped in there so I thought i should use the spare 5volt port.

Has anyone had much luck getting higher overclocks with improved northbridge cooling (esp on pentium motherboards)

I know on nf2 when my modded chipset fan broke on my lanparty ultra B my stable fsb went from 250 to 230 with the passive stock sink.

Hi, but at the end of the day no fan that small will be quiet, buy a new one and undervolt it.

What about that big lump of metal which has no fan, something about north or something.

Ah, I see where the confusion is, I meant a CPU heatsink/fan over the AMD64 chip...not the small gold msi one half way up the board near the agp slot...!

What you should do is the same as me, change round the fan with a low noise version for example by supergluing an 80 mm fan to the plastic heat sink fan mount, and place a passive heat sink on the Northbridge. I actually got an old aluminium Pentium 1 heat sink and drilled a couple of notches and holes in it with a regular household drill so that it goes great on the capacitors and mountings of the MSI board.
