I think I shall get this instead , as you said. 1GB of hi-quality stuff > 2GB of crap
Well, 2-3-3-6 is not agressive at all. 1.5-2-2-5 is what you call agressive

And then why not a Tras of 4, since you're running such a low CL?

Ive had various problems running 4 sticks of DDR400 in my machine. In fact it has resulted in me now having 3 Kits of 2x512Mb DDR400 memory.

Basically ive been very busy on the DFI forums trying to establish why i can get any 2 sets to run. And it appears DFI boards do not like Corsair memory. So although i can install 4 sticks and the PC runs fine, the BIOS and Windows only recognises 1Gb, NOT 2Gb like it should.

So i have to move away from Corsair and buy something else. So i dont suppose anyone is interested in the following :-

2 Kits of Matched 2x512Mb Sticks - Cosair XMS TWINX1024 3200C2PT, which will run at upto 480DDR when combined with 2T and timings of 2-3-3-6, or 420DDR with 1T and timings of 2-3-3-6 both at volatages of 2.8V.

I also have a Matched 2x512Mb Stick Kit of OCZ Premier Series OCZ4001024PDC-K, which also managed the same timings as the Corsair Above.

If anyone is interested (and i know their is a particular section for this but i have not got 50 posts under my belt) then drop me a line at either pihrana@hotmail.com, or pihrana@nildram.co.uk.

Stick in some sensible priced PC3200 RAM like corsair value or crucial standard

    either 2x512mb (1gig) or 2x1024mb (2gig)

2 or 4 sticks will operate at dual speed so you want 2 or 4 and not 1 or 3

There is this thing called command rate which is 1T fastest 2T not quite fastest.
With 2 sticks you can run 1T and with 4 sticks you must run 2T.

It all sounds so important but the performance differences are small I wouldn't worry about it tbh.

Keep your costs low as possible and build a new system more often with the money you save.

XMS C2PT isnt sooo bad, its a little old... but I could still run them at 2-2-2-5 at 2.8V at 200MHz.. its not as aggressive 1.5-2-2-4, but hey... its better than 2-3-3-6..

TBH, I wouldnt be bothered with the Tras, and besides, Tras of 9-11 has the highest memory bandwidth on my AMD 3500+..
    Me want Ultrabook

    Really ?

    Bizarre as I had 2 x 512 Mb of twinX-XL PC3200 PRO and 2 x 512 Mb Xpert-XL 3200 running on an AMD 3500+ "Winchester" with no issues at all and running @ 200 Mhz ( 400 Mhz DDR )

I have heard that this can happen dependant on the chipset.

Some people say that 4 x dual sided won't work on nVidia chipsets but will on VIA

    drunknmunky,

    That Corsair should do fine.

Well 2GB in Battlefield 2 absoultely kills 1GB even at 166mhz.

The jump in performance must be around 50%, I am always the first one onto the maps and have to wait around 30 seconds for the others to arrive, no slow down at the start atall completely maxed out.

    I'm Happy.

Made my decision, going to get 2GB(2x1GB).

    These OK?

What speed will they run at on my Asus A8N-SLi?

They are the larger sized versions of the ones im using right now !! Apart from my issues relating to getting 4 Modules working in my DFI board ive had nothing but good solid Timings !!

Although 1Gb sticks always seem to need slighly more relaxed timings than 512Mb Sticks for what ever reason !! Either way they will be more than adequate and although in most instances you are better off with decent quality 512Mb sticks (1Gb Total) if you plan on playing BF2 then you MUST get 2Gb total as it will really benefit you !! Its such a resource hungry game that the pain of waiting minutes for a game to load the resources when using 1Gb is just the reason why its worth buying 2Gb !! Think of all the wasted time you'll save

Anyways, so is anyone interested in my Corsair or OCZ sticks. They will achieve 1T 2-3-3-6 timings @2.8V with 410 DDR or 2T, 2-3-3-6 timings @2.8V 480DDR for those who really want to push them !!

Ive just bought myself 4 sticks of the OCZ Value VX (Winbond Chips) which are simply the un-binned top of the line VX series of OCZ !! Cheap at approx £73 for a Gb !! Fingers crossed they work in my ever so touchy DFI board.

Thats another thing. Those interested in DFI boards. They are Awsome overclockers !!! No doubt about it. But Jeeeze are they touchy and sensitive to the smallest Hardrware/Settings !!
