just tell me what you mean.
IRC, Email and Web can be run on a 486 DX 2-66.
    You mean 3d games ?
Well this is an embedded system, not a gaming machine so you can´t compare it.
This cpu can be cooled passively it will need under 20 watt of power. That´s just the future

If i want to gamble, i have my gaming machine for some hours a week.
All my office work and even playing counterstrike and Age of Empire is done with my Epia System.

486.. o yea, cause i like to be able to turn it on in the morning, go to uni and have a morning of lectures then come home to have my pc finally finish booting

there's a difference between actually being able to do it and practicle, responsive use whilst multitasking.

What's the "Antuar"? next gen EPIA cpu eh? Are they gonna finally install the "37" southbridge, loose the floppy and get some SATA in there instead? (assuming that's a pre-final design model). They should loose the p// port too and get some more USB ports in the back rather than USB pins.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Well i am running a mailserver and router on it, without any problems for about 5 years. You can even use a 33 Mhz machine.
Running office applacitions even with office suites like Office 2003 needs only systems under 300 Mhz.

Who needs 3 Ghz for something else than gaming or doing photoshop calculations on it ?

Hmm. I can see mailserver and router cause thats totally minimal cpu use. Its only packet direction and a bit of other. Office 2003.. again, there's practicle useage and responsiveness which is different to ACTUALLY being able to run it at those speeds. Sure itll run on a crap pc, but itll annoy the hell out of me cause its so slow. I ran XP and Office 2000 on a PR200 Cyrix, it took 5 mins to boot and 30secs to load anything else. It RAN but it wasnt that practicle. I LIKE something with a bit of a kick and i like being able to multitask without waiting for the window to load.

Well my Epia M10000 with the old Ezra core CPU has the performance of, let´s say a p3 500.
And it works fine without any problems.
The system is booting at the same time like any other system (cause it´s not a matter of the cpu power but of your harddisk and memory) i have about 10 open browser windows, got word, outlook and excel in the background, listening to mp3´s and if i want i can watch a dvd without a performance problem.

So why do i need 3 Ghz if all of my work can be done with it. And it take a 4th of the power of my gaming machine and it´s totally silent and it comes in a stylish small cube case.

I tell you why you need 3 Ghz, to run the newest games and the next windows version *gg*

Will there be a difference in your workspeed or on the ergonomical aspect when you are going to run "Longhorn" and not "W2k".
Of course not, there is only a difference on the account of microsoft, intel and amd and on your power bill

i agree completely - this cpu would be more than ample for all office applications and will probably run half-life and all its mods fine. its silent and probably fast enough to do all divx stuff. its not meant to be high performance - no-one wants sata in such a small package cos the sata hard drives that give extra performance (ie 10k) are a LOT more noisy. office applications havnt advanced in the last 5 years - they just run faster - so for the average pc user this would be ideal.

No! SATA = small cables!! less faf in small boxes = cooler. i doubt youll be running these things passively anyway. 1.4v is still quite a bit and the current 1.5v 1gig cores need active airflow.

SATA on QUIET drives like barra 5 for example. Id NEVER buy a raptor.

Yea, itll be great for a divx machine i spose and office, im not doubting that at all. halflife will probably run on it although you may have to play in software mode. I dunno, havent tried.

the 1ghz nehemiah (1.4v , well actually around 1.38v) runs passively with a zalman copper flower in my pc. about 47 degrees idle and about 65 under load. although this does depend on the airflow - at the moment i've got a 20dba panaflo fan at the back of the power supply...

yes, without any modification, other than bending the fins closer together a tiny bit
