    Which Athlon64 for a SN95G5 shuttle?

    3000+, 3200+ or 3500+

All Venice cores... What chances of overclocking a (for example) 3200+ to 2.5Ghz in a shuttle? what are the highest clocks which can be attained at stock voltages?

Basically if i can save money and get a 3000+ and overclock it to 3500+ speeds without stability issues then i'll do that, however if i can spend a little more and get a 3200+ which will clock further then i might do that.... (etc)... What is the ceiling for these chips?

*wanders off to have a browse of what google has to say about this*

not too bad really... 2.5Ghz isnt that toasty, and a 3000+ or 3200+ can get there pretty easily
    Me want Ultrabook

Be careful when buying your SN95, with regard to which version you get, as V1 and V2 sn95's have hit and miss results in supporting the 'E stepping' core Athlon's, namely the Venice and SanDiego.

Your best bet is to ensure that you get a V3 Sn95, as this has been produced by Shuttle with the intent of supporting the latest cores.

As for overclocking, I only have a lowly V1 SN95 with a Newcastle 3500+, so o/c'ing is very limited.........but you may have more success with a later (V3) box and Venice core Athlon.

It may be quite a while before you see any UK retailers stocking V3 as Shuttle are apparently waiting for V2 stock to be cleared. Many retailers I have emailed have stated that they have no definite date.

I too was in the same position and decided to save up a little more for an SN25P instead.

I've got an AGP 6600GT which i want to use in the new system, hence the reason for the SN95G5 over the SN25P

If you can afford it always go for the highest CPU in a Shuttle or other SFF computer. The SFF computers do not overclock as well because of power supply and space/heat issues. Also, generally the motherboards in SFF machines do not have as many overclocking options.

For video cards in SFF machines the 6600GT and X800XL are great because they do not require external power connections (on the PCI-E ones).

Yep I also have a 6800 which unlocks to 16 pipes that I was going to use, but now I'm selling on ebay and going for either a PCI-E Ati X800 Pro or PCI-E 6600GT as I require VIVO.

It's such a shame as the G5 series cases look a lot more better than the P series.
