My dad has just £188 in his computer account to spend on parts for a new pc. He intends to overclock.
He needs:
Venice 3000+
s939 motherboard which supports AGP
A PSU of some sort
So far i think :

That leaves a measly £37.44 for a psu, its tough i know, but any suggestions would be good.
Just a thought if you're getting the "oem 3000+" it doesn't come with a Heat Sink Fan...if you don't have one for an A64 you'll need to get one. Should be around £10 for a cheap one.

i got a very decent PSU from the computer shop i work at for £27. it's a 550W PSU and it has better ratings on the 12V line (32A) than my Tagan in my other computer which is a 480W (28A). the 5V is a little lower but this is being used less and less. Overall a decent supply.
Its made by coloursit.
if you choose a crappy PSU then go for the biggest wattage possiable and check that the 12V rating is above about 22A.

Have you considering using Socket 754 if your budget cannot be stretched any further?

that PSU although of very good quality only supplies 18A on the 12v line. if you have a stuffed case then it may blow or cause random crashes. if you are only going to be running a low ish power graphics card and a single hard drive and DVD drive then all should be well.

Instead of a MSI Neo2 PLat.. he could just settle for a vanilla Abit AV8... works just as good, if not better...
and its cheaper too..

1. I havent seen an Abit AV8 for less than that MSI
2. s754 is not an option
3. We have a cheap cooler that will do till he finishes building his water cooling system.
4. If nobody comes up with a bargain, the psu can wait till he has more money (we have a temporary cheap one that will work for now).
Have you tried ebay?

Its fun to make your own watercooling. I have had good overclocking results from my water cooling so hes going to give it a go.
