Thread: Thoughts on low-power 1.6-2TB fileserver with PCI-X...?

    definitely the more i look at it, the nicer underclocked athlon64 gets. affordable, lots of stock parts/chipset support... scientific linux (https://www.scientificlinux.org/) seems a decent bet to run on it (or maybe ubuntu...)

    @oralpain: many thanks for all these suggestions. anyone recommend any other possible a64 motherboards that allow simple underclocking?

    slowly speccing out a few of the smaller bits and pieces now i'm getting the flavour...

    Realistically, one of those coolers for a seriously underclocked/undervolted A64 will be major overkill.

    One other thing I should mention. I am fairly certain that all AOpen A64 boards allow the full range of sub-stock CPU voltages (down to 0.8v)

    When seriously undervolted, the stock heatsink (no fan or fan at 33% rpm) is more than enough to keep it cool.
