what in GODSNAME is wrong with this pc??????????????

what in GODSNAME is wrong with this pc??????????????

    hello

i am building a new pc and its got to an incredible point.

    I built a pc (xp2800, ThermalRight SLK-800 heatsink, collermaster201, asus a7n8xdeluxe, 9700pro, antec430, 2*twinmos pc3200cl2)

    built it, didn't work:

    it wouldn't post:
    fans whirl
    would shutdown after 4 seconds.

thought I had isolated it to the cpu or MB so I RMAed both. both came back as fine.

So i built the pc again ,this time barebones (CPU, heatsink, fan, MB, RAM, GPU< PSU). it worked. YEY!

put it into the case, sorted out the wiring. Turned it on. same problem as above.

Heres the worst bit - did the barebones test, same problem.

WHAT IN GODS NAME IS GOING ON????

Any suggestions (bar the obvious) appriciated

Sorting the MB on the case? Sounds like it to me, if it worked outside the case and then not in it.

yep, thought of that. so i did the barebones test, as i said.

barebones test = cpu, fan, mb, psu, gpu, ram

    i.e. no case.

its def. not shorting on the case

hmm, you say it was working with the barebones test untill you used it in the case....

Is it possible you shorted the mobo when you put into the case, causing damage....?

    :/

its possible but bear in mind that I had this problem before I RMAed the MB/CPU (even when i did the barebones test).

    its very very strange

aye, sounds like you have shorted something on the MB. If it worked outside the case and then you put it back it in with no luck, then there is something in the case causing the problem.

Are you using nylon washers when putting the MB in? Are there nylon washers on the standoffs in the case?

its a v ery, very nice case.

not sure if you would care, but the 201 aluminum inside the case scratches very easily (even with finger nails).

of course you won't see it much, but its my only problem. oh and the lack of ieee1394 on the front.

does anyone make a 3.25'' firewire bayport extension? I would really like one, coolermaster only make usb ones

    SUCCESS AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i just realised that the only think i hadn't swopped out was the heatsink...

idn't think there was much ponit - what can go wrong with a heatsink, esp an slk800?

well i replaced it with the retail xpbarton cooler...

and what you know, it POSTED!

very very annoyed that i have wasted £25 on RMAing perfectly fine stuff when all along one of the best coolers in the world was broken.

perhaps this thread well serve as a lesson to anyone else who has problems posting
