    Yet another memory question

Whats the best choice to go for out of the two bellow?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=71473

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=79913

Whats the difference, apart from the chavgeek lights?

Also, could someone please explain exactly what the timings, for example, 2.5-4-4-8, mean and what to look for when buying memory. I know the first is the CAS latancy but not sure what the others are. (i take it lower means better?).

The top ones run at 2.5-3-3-6 (on an AMD system) the the bottom run at 3-4-4-8 (Platform not stated). Does that mean the first lot run faster? Also, does this mean the first lot will also overclock better?

I think there may be a mistake on the website - they should both have the same specification according to the product code i.e. same timings, the only difference being the lights on the Pro.

Can one of the Scan boys confirm this?

They should be the same speed, the lights look like arse imho, if you want them, at least get ballistix tracer and do it properly.

When I was buying, I was advised to get the C2PT because it is generally the best for non-uber-experts. If you want a smallish overclock or not at all, then it's the "safest" ram to get. Apparantly

If youre only going for mild overclocking, crucial value is the way to go. If you want uber speeds and have a dfi board then twinmos speed premium.

They are okay for the average overclocker - but if you want the best results I can personally vouch for the "XL" range of memory modules. These are PC3200 rated sticks that are made with DDR500 Samsung modules and as such should be able to run upto 500 Mhz in speed - thus ideal for the higher performance overclockers require.

isn't there just a slight change in timmings depending on if it used in a intel or amd rig just to do with how they are run i know it was on the corsair website

also the second pair are much better since the tighter timmings don't have flashing lights and are cheaper...
