A friend of mine wants a portable lappy for uni and I've found this for a fair price. What do you think, or can you suggest something better for the same price/cheaper?
Thanks all.

Same price but 64 bit
Battery life won't be as good though, will it? I really think Centrino is a force to be reckoned with.
You can quite easily config an inspiron 2200 to that price and youll prob get it tommorow.

If they only want it budget then you can sort them even cheaper (i.e, 90 day warranty, 40gb disk etc.
If they are just using it at UNI a bat life of a couple of hours will be good enough.
Libraries have power points and so does (at least mine does) the Union.
Lectures aren't more then 1hr, and if they want to use the system as their main comp I've seen someone play UT2004 on a similar sys.
I somehow doubt she'll be playing UT2004 :)
As for the Dell - looks good, but I think she'd prefer something smaller like the Averatec with the 12" screen. Still, I'll mention it.
Is it going alongside her main system? Or is it all she'll be using?
My understanding is it's the only system, so I see why a 15" model may be preferable.
Get her an iBook :)
You suggest that I go buying people laptops? Hell no!Quote:

I dont know, she and ibook are usually a pretty good combination, not that i sterotype womens computer skills or mac owners ;)
Show hera 12" before you go ordering it, she might not appreciate what a difference the extra few inches makes. God that sounds wrong doesnt it?
For portability i wouldn't go above 12", or the newer 13.3" screens.
I havent seen any 14" laptops under 3kg, and for a girl i'd try to get less than 2kg
