Laptop's do cost a bomb, and Toshiba is up there with the expensive makes, because their computer's are very high quality and reliable.

PC World inflate the prices as well, but for that computer, I wouldn't say she would be paying too much! It's as they are!

    - Thanks, Daniel.

(incidently, he's a she, not that it matters. except it might call for a tougher build and simpler usablity!)

    Changed

The same spec from say Sony would add another few hundred to the price also.

    WTF???

    That isn't good value... Clicky

Take a look at this for a good quality, excellent value laptop - about £750 inc delivery.

Its has a 1.6Ghz P4M 533 FSB CPU, 60GB HD, DVD-RW, 15.4" widescreen and a PCI Express X600 64MB built in, 4 hours + battery life (like most Centrino based gear), choose a warranty to suit should 12 months not be enough.

Lots of people I know have Acers (including myself) and haven't had a problem.

There are more expensive lappys on the market but IMHO this has the best price/performance atm.

I would not buy a laptop with intel intergrated graphics. Intel dont make desktop graphics and so any on a laptop are going to be crap for anything that uses 3d or video.

Its obviously not being bought for gaming, however I would consider intel gfx to be no good for anything other than office programs, and in that case get a laptop with half the ram, hdd, and cpu because you wont need it.

ATI or Nvidia graphics are what you want....

I've had two Acer laptops, and NEVER EVER AGAIN will I have another one. Both cost me over 2k, and both fell apart when being treated excellently. I've had two Toshiba's and the extra is well well worth it.

They try to give you too much for your money, and as they say 'you get what you pay for'.

All the people I know who have Acers have never had a problem. I have one next to my monitor now that plays Eve Online etc nicely, been on 3 holidays (nothing better than a dvd or gaming on a plane) with mine and no problems.

As with all expensive purchases read up on reviews etc before you buy.

Acers support does blow quite hard. The machines are average. I'd never buy another one, that's for sure. ThinkPads all the way from now on.
