1700+, Where?

Just out of curiosity where abouts can you get the AMD 1700+ JIUHB T-bred cpu's nowdays? cpu city doesnt seem to sell them anymore, and most of the other sites which do sell them dont say what the stepping is for the cpu.

Best bet is to go for the 1800+'s they sell or plump for the Barton 2500+, it's the best bang-for-buck IMO. I'm sure someone will tell you otherwise though

Or for sale/wtd forums... You'll find quite a few people offloading their 1700s for 2500s in recent times. So keep you eye out there.. usually £30-£35, but I think someone on ocuk sold a guaranteed clocker for £50 :/ I feel sorry for the buyer tbh

You just need to know it is TbredB, its stock speed rating is of very little relevance, people only liked the XP1700+ so much because they were the cheapest TbredB you could buy. Only diff between a TbredB XP1700+ and an XP1800+, XP2000+, XP2400+ (etc) is the stock multiplier they come with, almost all mobos should allow multiplier adjustment to overcome this though many are limited to 12.5x maximum or may have problems if the CPU uses a stock multiplier of 13x or higher.

Barton are much cheaper than a few months ago and the XP2500+ is ALWAYS Barton taking the guess work and homework out of buying a good clocking CPU. Still nothing guaranteed but an 11%+ o/c is practically certain and many achieve XP3200+ speeds with little difficulty. A nice bonus to Barton is that it should always come with 1.65v stock which is very good for those who possess mobos without voltage control (or which use %). Barton is basically TbredB with double L2 which makes it 5% faster clock for clock (ie Barton @ 2.1ghz = TbredB @ 2.2ghz).

So would you advise people who are still looking for 1700+ to now go for the Barton 2500+?

The XP2500+ is simply an easy option. You get 5% faster speed clock for clock, can find them everywhere, don't have to worry about core / code, get a very nice stock multiplier (11x) and also a nice stock voltage (1.65v). This makes it very nice for any mobo (and RAM) that can at least do 333FSB although 400FSB ability is more desirable, you don't even have to worry about your mobo supporting multiplier and voltage adjustment (although obviously it's much nicer). If it doesn't o/c well you should get what you paid for it back, XP2500+ even stock is still very desirable and very fast.

IMHO TbredB still wins the 'price : perf' battle but then you have to search around for an XP1800+ to XP2000+ that is definitely TbredB. Barton XP2500+ should be found under £70 now and since you should quite easily achieve speeds around XP3200+ (£300+) you should be very happy.

i went 4 the xp2500+ on austins guidance and im certainly not dissapointed,i had mine sailing smoothly @ 2.2ghz but reduced it to 2.1ghz for safe measure so go ahead and buy 1 u know it makes sence

I have one of those uber 1337 DLT3C week 10's :-> got it during the DLT3C craze (u know the one) ive been thinking of selling it but im not convinced the 2500+ could go any higher if even the same, it can sit @ 2.5ghz (12x210) very happily for a fair amount of hours.

TbredB are still very very sweet, esp if you can get one to 2.5ghz stable. You'd need to get a Barton to 2.4ghz to have comparable perf and most TbredB and Barton tend to rest closer to 2.2ghz. Back when the TbredB was popular (esp £40 XP1700+ J__B) the Barton demanded the likes of £130 which was clearly not worth the money. Be happy with your TbredB 2.5ghz as you're roughly equal to an AthlonXP3500+, no point selling up until you make the move to Athlon64 939pin.

i got my AMD 1800+ JIUHB T-bred to post at 2.3GHz on air. But cos of my generic ebuyer ram. i can't get it any higher. Its stable at 2.2Ghz tho.

Could be TbredA or TbredB and there's a world of difference between them. It's shameful that stores like this stress o/c'ing features but neglect to tell you the important stuff. TbredA will run much cooler than a Pally but won't o/c much better and could also be locked. TbredB not only runs cool but o/c's like a dream and is always unlocked too. If you can't guarantee TbredB then just get a XP2500+ which is ALWAYS Barton.

I wouldnt of thought trying to find something like one of these 1700+'s would be such a pain. Maybe will do an update to 2500+ to see what I can get from one of those.
