how long are maxtor with RMA?

    hi peeps

i havent posted in a whiel here i havent had any problems until now

my hard drive has become faulty, one day last week, i switched my pc on to play a little bit of the F.E.A.R. demo, but the pc froze at my wallpaper with no start bar... i did a reset then i spent the next 2 days trying my best to fix the thing...chdsks dsk didnt work, low level format didnt work....

finally, i downloaded Maxtor's Powermax and it gave me a diagnostic code and RMA registration...

i'm just wondering if anyone in Hexus community has had experiences with Maxtor with RMA ?

nice to post here again (lol)

I returned a Maxtor drive a year back and used their Express RMA option which is excellent. You apply online, submit a credit car for security and a few days later your replacement drive arrives: all you do is drop the old one in the packing carton and send it back to Maxtor which bypasses the need to find suitable packaging. They only take money from your card if yu fail to return the drive. Western Digital also use this process which is as painless and as fast as (if not faster) than going back to the retailer who sold you the drive.

I have used the express RMA wich is superb. I got my replacement drive in a few days which was a bigger drive , then you send your old drive back.

The whole process is quick and very easy.

Another vote for maxtor's rma - like others I reckon 2 weeks is`about it. So good that they send the replacement before you have to return the original..

Again, I can back them up... also on their new maxline range there is a 5 year warranty and they are supported for 24-7 usage... awesome!

the way i saw it was simple.. their's standard RMA which is you send your faulty hardware to them and they receive and send you a replacement back..

the faster RMA is that you submit your cred card details to them, they take a amoutn from you, they send you the replacement-then you send them your faulty one...

i chose the standard RMA.... because out of money at the mo

so by the looks of things, i should get it next week

but one question remains... why dont Maxtor have a warehouse /HQ in england

That's almost right, they don't actually charge your credit card unless you 'fail' to return the faulty drive.

Edit: At least iirc that is what happened last time although i don't have the credit card statement to check.

I had to RMA my 160GB drive a while ago, and I think the total turnaround time was less than 7 days. Very good service.

Sounds like its between Hitachi and Western Digital. WD took more than 2 weeks last time as I had to send the drive to Germany, they just moved office AND the testing took a while. Hitachi really impressed me as they managed to get the whole thing sorted in the same week.

(both using the non express service)

Used to take us 2-3 weeks. Nice to get a newer model sometimes. Shoulda used the premium service, in hindsight...
