My first overclock of my new system :)

Could not wait any longer, just had to have a go. I am only using reference air cooling (with good case cooling) and I have to say i am quite impressed with my first results. At least, they seem good to me compared to what i getting a few years ago.

I have just used coolbits and aBits uGuru software for now. I don't want to play in the BIOS too much until i have got my head around my new gear a bit more. Just using the preset 'turbo' mode in abits uGuru has taken my CPU from 2.2ghz to just under 2.4ghz (11x216). Best not play around with the voltages myself just yet me thinks. As far as the 6600GT goes, I has pushed it up from 300/1000 to 580/1150 (BTW 300 was the 'default', does that not seem a bit low to start with for this card?).

It passed 3Dmark05 OK; With everything at stock I was geting 3600 points. With the overclocking stated above it's now 4200. Ok, so 3dmark is not everything, i will have to test a few games i guess.

So what do you OC monkeys here think?
    Is that any good?
Reckon I could push it any further using the refererence cooling i have?

Any other better software anyone here could recommend for OCing and testing? (i'm going to run Prime95 over night).

One other thing, i have not played with any of my memory timings yet, apart from taking the CAS from 3 to 2.5. Got any recomendations/tips?

lo dude, we have the same cpu and ram but my mobo is Asus a8n sli. I used AI booster and put it up 2400mhz (220 x11). CPU temp is still at 44 on load. my 3d05 score was 6600 on stock, going to try with cpu at 2400 now.
Looks good though buddy. Im too nervous to touch my gpu atm

also whats a good test to quickly check if the increase in mhz as made any difference?

Is that 6600 with no OCing at all? Blimey, looks like i have some work to do. BTW, what the best way to test the CPU temp when at load these days?

EDIT : Having said that, your gfx card is significantly quicker than mine.

Sure you haven't clocked the 2D timings on the 6600 by accident? 6600GTs *should* be 500/1000 for 3D by default.

Both 3D & 2D were set to 300/1000 by default.

Yup and for a 6600GT 3D timings are 500/1000 - thats a little bizarre that both were 300MHz

i though for agp was 500-1000 and agp was 300-1000 but can always be clocked up too 1000 mem without a problem.

afaik mine was at 300 too.
