Is a Sempron 2300 mulitiplier locked?

I got a superb deal frm Scan (another thread) and an Abit nforce 2 mobo, and a Sempron 2300.

It's gone together a treat, well pleased, quite quiet too. And I got PC3200 too, so it'll do the 400DDR trick later on, but first I wanted to knock the multiplier around a few times.

It's a 9.5 multi default. Is this core the Barton stylee one? With more cache. Running 166/333 fsb, or is it SUPPOSED to run 200/400.

Cos it SHOWS as a 2300 at 9.5x166= 1577, but thats quite low, as a 2600+ at 12.5x166=2075

Turn my back for a few weeks and it all gets away from me

    Cheers peeps

It'll be running at 1.58 gighz on a 333mhz bus with 256KB of cache.
Im pretty sure its a model 8, so its based on the Thunderbird-B core.
AFAIK, all Semprons are locked from the factory.

    kk...cheers men

I'll crank the FSB to 400 then. Wondered if the Semp's were locked like later Bartons were.

Sempron model numbers are higher than Athlon XP numbers for the same clockspeed (which makes the processors comparatively worse). They're supposed to be aligned more with Celerons rather than P4s (sorry, Tbirds ). Compare the S754 Sempron 3100 to the Athlon 64 2800- the Athlon has more cache and yet a lower number.

All Socket A processors from week 0339- and that obviously means all Semprons- are multiplier locked (although the Mobile mod presumably still works on Via and SIS chipset boards). On an Nforce2 board you're out of luck. Get that FSB wound up as high as it'll go.
