New P.C Needs Overclocking

Hi All im looking for some advice on overclocking my p.c

The Spec :-

Intel Pentium 4 2.4c 533FSB
Crosair Platinum Twinx 512MB DDR XMS 2700 333
Asus P4S800 M/b
Coolmaster Aero 7 Fan
MAxtor 120 Gig Hdd

Any ideas at all

:( SiS648 are known to be poor o/c'ers as SiS are generally well known to be. You're currently running 4x133=533FSB and IIRC you should expect to top out around 4x140=560FSB (if CPU and RAM don't prove limiting) so that's a 5% o/c making your 2.4ghz = 2.53ghz. Depending upon stepping the 2.4ghz CPU may be happy far higher than this. All you can really do is up the FSB one notch ata time and see how far you can go whilst remaining stable. Set the RAM to run synced to FSB in order that it doesn't become limiting. If you want a perf boost in gaming look to o/c'ing or upgrading the gfx card.

Yeah I agree with Austin, the SiS648 is a not a great overclocker, saying that I managed last year, to get a 2.0a to 2.4Ghz (100 -> 120 FSB) with no stability probs, that was with a Abit SR7-8X. The boards still running it fine too with a Coolermaster Silent Heatpipe on it.

I might persuade the mate I sold it to, to get a Aero 4 and see if it can clock a bit more.

;) Yup. With stock 133x4=533FSB you would use a 5:4 ratio to run the RAM async at 166x2=333mhz (PC2700 speed). When you o/c the FSB the RAM will also be o/c'ed and your PC2700 may not like running faster than 333mhz (although it probably will), it makes sense to run synced (1:1, 3:3, PC2100 @ 533FSB). Running async often yields much smaller gains than you think but you really want synced to ensure your mobo is the most limiting factor, you can always test a different RAM ratio after you find the max stable FSB.
