Hello!
Is it bad for my drives to have them sideways (i.e. so that the drive is at a right angle to the floor?) I would guess it is... but I'm not sure.

No, it's fine. What's not good, though, is moving them whilst they're spinning.
Okey doke. I now have a hard drive sideways, against my case window, with the stickers removed and casing polished up like a mirror! Plus it's out of the way of the airflow, which it was blocking before. Just a slight breeze over it now!
Lol yeah stay off the glue, Pyle! If you look at the bottom, most HDs have screw holes on the bottom face. I used these and some longish screws through the holes on my floppy/HD bays. So I used the same drive bay holes as I would anyway, just different holes on the HD! Does that make sense?
EDIT: Piccy....

Yeah that's what I was trying to say... Just don't stab yourself with a screwdriver or anything. Or eat the screws.
Dam it, thats what ive been doing wrong all these years. Doh!!Quote:

I lifted a customer's brand new DVD-RW drive vertical while it was spinning, I picked up the wrong one, I think I killed it. Scared the crap out of me, RIP the Nero OEM disc that was in there at the time.
Roffle ;)Quote:

Lots of cases mount the HD's that way so it can't be much of a problem. Also a lot of cases can be mounted on their side or base. If it caused problems, they wouldn't do this.

I can tell you that the drives dont last half as long as the should do if they are mounted sideways. My mate who has a G4 Cube, has gone through about 4 or 5 hard drives. Cant tell me thats bad hard disks?
thats bad hard disks :D
