    AN8 Fatality Modded?

I've just got my new AN8 Fatality board turn up, took it out of the box and was looking over the board when I noticed the genuine ABIT sticker wasnt stuck down properly, i peeled up the edge to find that theres a small peice of wire connecting the green chip thing to a small section of the board near the R409 reisitor near the USBPWR3 header on the board...

Anyone else got this or should I send this board back as its possibly not new and someones tried to mod it, failed and then sent it back to the supplier?!

Heres a quick idea of where the wire is on the AN8 pick from the Abit site

Sounds fishy. Give Abit a ring and ask if there were ever any late additions to the board? I'm not sure thy'd be a massive amount of use, depends who you get on the phone, but worth a try?

It's likely to be something Abit themselves have done, that area of the board is not where vmods would be done AFAIK- no power circuitry there.

but its near the SATA controller so maybe it was done to limit the voltage/ PCI Speed so it can be overclocked more?

I'll see if any of the new boards have this on as well and report back after I've had my dinner

I have the same board, and dont see a green wire, but I didn't take the sticker off for fear of mincing my fingers in my gfx cooler :|

See if these help, and if not, i'll take some more later:

This last one is of a different sticker on the uGuru chip, just showing that the stickers are all badly stuck on:

I've never heard of a mod like that. It's not unusual to get new components with one or two of the connections made with wires like that. Presumably there are flaws in the PCB layout, just not serious enough to require a complete redesign.

The sticker on the uGuru chip is just there to disguise the fact that it's a bog standard Winbond monitoring chip.

This is an official ECN to prevent the possibility of IEEE1394 (FireWire) chip being burnt when installing a PCI card.
