Sony Vaio Laptop
Right,
I have a sony vaio laptop and i just decided to format it with a updated version of with win xp with sp2 intergrated instead of the sony os version that it came with. install was fine. But ive noticed that just watching the old mpeg vid that the cpu usage goes right up to 100% (its a celeron btw) and the vids start to lag really bad also now the battery will only last for 20 mins were as before i did the format it would last for at least 2 hours. i am wondering if there is som driver problems. Sony dont seem to be to much help atm.
btw the laptop isnt a bad spec atall
2.8ghz celeron
512mb DDRAM
128mb intergrated ATI mobility Graphics
40gb HDD
its a year old and shouldnt really have any problems with running vids, i dont spend much time on it so iam not sure if the 100cpu usage that iam seeing is correct for this machine as iam normally using my desktop.
maybe its just iam finding this laptop slow because iam used to a very fast pc but i dont know. iam sure somthings up..
Cheers guys

yeh lagging on video with that speed even on a celeron is strange...
Have you got the orignal os on a disc so you could go back to it?
-
yea i do have the original os disc, but iam not sure i really want to go through the effort of backing up and installing my progs again and prob being told i have to phone up to register my copy of windows because the key has been used to many times :P
is there any drivers for celeron processors?
-
It could be a problem with the program your using to play videos.
Have you tried any other programs like Winamp, Windows Media Player, etc?
Also make sure you have the correct codec installed for the video. :)

i had already tried that before i started the thread :P
-
-
yep i have tried that to, i ve done it all......
-
download cpu z and try that, see what speed youre running at, if its stuck at the bottom of the speedstep thingy then could explain the lag, not the battery though.
-
also have done that before making this thread ...... :P every thing looks fine apart from the multiplier seems to be on x27 which to me sounds strange.

Windows update might have an updated driver for your CPU, have a look there.
Try fiddling with the colour settings, 16/24/32 bit colour
Uninstall the ATi driver and try the default windows video driver (if it supports your card)

chipset drivers could be the answer..tried them?
