    Question

    S! All

Im currently running an XP2000 chip in a Epox 8K3A mobo.........as im clueless could anybody decipher the fastest chip i can run on this board?

Ive a gig of DDR (2 x 256 1 x 512) and have just picked up an Crucail 9800pro. Cash is a major consideration so this next upgrade seems the cheapest way to get the max from my current set up.

    Details of Mobo

    # Socket A compatible AMD Athlon XP processor 1500+ to 3000+, 600MHz to 1.4GHz AMD Athlon and AMD Duron processor upto 1.3.Ghz
    # VIA KT333 AGPset (KT333 + VT8233A)
    # Three 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM sockets Support single-sided or double-sided 2.5v DDR-266/333 DIMMs in 64/128/256/512/1GbMb technologies Support Asynchronous clocking mode between FSB and DIMM
    # Six PCI connectors compliant with PCI v2.2
    # Two IDE ports (up to 4 IDE devices) with UDMA-33, ATA-66/100/133 support from embedded IDE controller.

    Link http://www.epox.nl/products/?product...duct_type_id=4

Any other advice to get the max from this rig welcome

Also what cooler would you recommend?

    Cheers Dak

It looks like unless you overclock the max fsb is 333mhz.

This will let you use a sempron up to about 3000+
or a barton up to 3000+ (faster than the above sempron)

Being a VIA KT333 board, it'll only officially support 333FSB AMD CPUs. So as the specs suggest, the XP3000+ 333FSB is probably the fastest CPU it can support.

Sadly... AMD Malaysia stopped producing K7s last month.. So you're either trying your luck in a local computer shop or on Ebay for a second hand one...

TBH m8? The system is a little past its golden age.. better get your savings going for a new rig..
