Choose my mobo.. :)
I can't decide which motherboard to go for :(
Looking at all high-end s939 NF4 boards..
Any recommendations?
Need some good overclocking options (using a 3000+).. & for it to be able to cope with my cheap Geil Value RAM :p (don't fancy spending more money on RAM).
Was looking at the EPoX EP-9NPA+ but thats because I'm biased (used a 8RDA+ for years and it treated me well).
Cheers.

Are you looking for the NF4 Ultra or SLI chipset ?
MSI K8N NEO4 Plat SLI / Ultra
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe / Premium
Both are good overclockers. If you want real hardcore O/Cing, the DFI Lan Party is the board to go for. That said, its a bit more pricey than the others.
-
dfi ultra-d/sli-d/sli-dr
the only way to go for extreme tweaking options
-
Abit AN8 Fatal1ty boards - Expensive but they are the dogs danglies in either vanilla or SLi flavour especially if you want to overclock.
-
I'm going for the DFI end.
Mainly because at www.dfi-street.com they have some superb customer service and bloody rapid response too.
-
yeah, they are pretty damn good there.

yup, helped me out more than once

Was thinking of going for the SLI even though I'll be using it with a X850XTPE, just for futureproofish ness... may one day switch to using two cards :)
-
Not sure about the DFI.. didn't really consider it at-all, not sure if I want a DFI (no idea why though). The MSI K8N looked really good until I noticed people saying it has serious problems with overclocking that MSI haven't been able to resolve (haven't seen specifics though); leaving the Asus A8N as a good contender :) - never had an Asus anything though, but I've read good things about the mobo; I think the only trouble would be the "Fatality" tag.. damn him :p
edit: actually; the A8N SLI Premium :)
also: what is the difference between the Diamond & Premium MSI's?
with the A8N it seems it is electronic switching for SLI & the fanless coolers - is that really worth the extra £30? (and will it actually be able to cope with as high an FSB as the fan chipset cooled version...?).
-
Right.. been poking around for a while (call this an extended lunch)..
Decided to save a bit of cash and skip on the SLI..
So the Abit AN8 Ultra? .. looks ok + a tad cheaper than SLI versions ;)
edit: saying that; I've just noticed the "Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9 NF4 Ultra" has SATA II ... :| .. argh so much choice.. right I'm going to stop posting now until I have a definite decision to seek approval of :)
-
All the NF4 ultra and SLi have SATA II
-
Oh.. missed that one :) .. SATA II HDD's it is then.
Ok; so I'm thinking Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SKT939; SLI as it seems to be only £10 more? (so I may aswell); shipped with support for the 90nm core as far as I can tell so no fiddling there. The hexus review praised it, which is enough for me :)
Unless somebody has an equivalent performance (but cheaper) board? SLI isn't required as such I decided.

A8N SLI Premium..........Great mobo, check reviews in google.
-
I have to admit having problems getting my DFI working right, but if flies if you spend the effort. Just make sure you buy the right bits, and the DFI board is somewhat.... temperamental.
Take care choosing RAM, PSU, RAM...
DFI Street a great site - you can't fault the customer service.
oh, did I mention RAM?
-
I would go for the Asus A8N-SLI Premium.
I got an Asus i love it. I just had some problems with the raid drivers, but the motherboard has been always really stable. If I had to get one now, i would go for the A8N-SLI Premium (no doubt).
And as darrensen said in the reviews, it seems like one of the best options.

If you won't need SLI I guess I'd recommend you Asus A8N-E nForce4 Deluxe. But if you want SLI I guess A8N-SLI would be just fine ;)
