Making my water cooling quieter.

I have a dual radiator with 2 120mm fans and i have just changed them from running at 6v each to 5v and its made the world of difference. They have gone form being fairly annoying to almost silent. I think maybe whoever said fans dont like to be in parrallel was right.

Now i have the problem that i can hear my pump (hydor l30) rumbling away. Does anyone have any tips for reducing its noise eg suspending it

I know that if i make the pump quieter then soemthing else in the system will annoy me, but i hope eventually it will be quiet enough to sleep through.

How is your pump currently mounted?
- If its just bolted to the case, the suspending it, or machanicaly de coupling it will make a fair bit of diffrence, i would have thought.

At the moment its mounted on foam which has helped but it isnt perfect.

I make mine a foam box and put it in, so it's a bit more quiet.

AC powered pumps should be silent. Any niose will be viabration. I found a 1" thick piece of foam which mine old 1250 sat on worked very well.

I might swap to a thicker piece of foam. It gets hot so i dont want to insulate it in any way.

Im a little concerned that even when i lift the pump up, thus suspending it in my hands, it still makes a rattling vibration sound. Is their a chance the impeller isnt quite on properly?

Changing from 6v to 5v has altered my load temps from about 39 to about 41 (as far as the highly inaccurate asus probe can tell) on my s478 3.0e @ 3.8ghz. Which is worth it for the lower noise levels.

My l30 had some fairly loud vibrations, tried foam and boxing it up in cardboard but that didn't work so I just got some cable ties and suspended it from the case trying various positions until it was inaudible. Not entirely silent but it works for me as I can't hear it over background noise so its all the same as silent to me.

Some pumps have loose 2-part impellers to allow them to pass chunks of sediment without damage. In a WC system you shouldn't be getting any of those so you can use a drop of superglue or similar to fix the impellor which will quiet it down.
