New hard drive! Yay! But which manufacturer...

Here's my 2c:

I have had WD for quite some time, and I'm very happy. Maxtor gave me no problems either. I really hate IBM/Hitachi, because I hade quite some problems with it (like not replying to motherboard correctly about being master/slave, not working with certain CD drives,....). And last, but not least, I've heard some really good comments about Samsung's drives. That's it, it's all up to you, and probably $ difference.

I am in the market for a new HD too. Am looking at the new 250Gb Samsung reviewed recently by custompc magazine. Its now on their elite hardware list but its £82 or sommet.

ALSO...I've got Partition Magic 8. Can I copy my current C: partition to the new drive and keep the MBR?

Should be able to, yes. Personally I'd use Ghost but PM8 has a copy partition function that should do the job.

I will be getting that same drive hatsumi, in about 3 weeks, i have heard lots of good things about it and i have not tried samsung yet, even toms hardware liked them p120 i think its called

use norton ghost, it copies everything, and you can add syntax to copy bit by bit as well.

I only ever trust Maxtor and Western Digital, had an IBM a couple years ago and that died about 14 months later. I've got 5 Maxtors in my server and thats been on 24/7 pretty much since October and it's never had any problems. I've got a Western Digital in my Xbox and I'm looking at 2 74GB Raptors when I upgrade my PC in a few months.
