help - what mouse shall I buy

is the mx1000 really that good?

ok i use pc mostly for video editing but also do a fair bit of gaming, surfing, just the usual. I need a wireless optical mouse but im in a dilemma. i dunno whether its worth shelling out 37 quid for a mx1000 or i should just get a cheapo job.

also are wirless keyboards any good. i heard they miss keys out and eat batteries, as its never off i prob need a rechargable mouse.

ones i have looked at are

    dirt cheap

    middle of the range

    and the mx1000

and if any one could recommend a keyboard thats not too big but works.

I have a Microsoft Wirless desk set, the keyboard hasn't need a battery change since I got it, about 4 months ago. And the mouse is fine too. Only ever needed to move the reciever occaisionally when I've been somewhere with more than one wireless keybaord/mouse. Great overall though,.

Well if you're right-handed and don't mind pushing a fairly heavy mouse around I'd definately go for the MX1000. I use it in Photoshop, Avid and for gaming as well as everyday stuff and it works a treat - as comfortable and reliable as the classic Optical Intellimouse. Recharge time is about 3hrs and it's really responsive. Logitech also put update software out on a regular basis so it's well supported. I have the base unit next to my monitor, just above the speakers and there's no interference or lag. They've also gotten rid of the awkward power/usb attachment they used on the MX700 so yeah, if you can justify the outlay it's easily worth it. Just make sure you get to a high street store to try one (they have them moulded in blister packs so you can hold your hand over it) and see if it'll fit comfortably in your palm. If you have gorilla hands like mine it's fine

The nes MS wireless mice aren't as nice as the Logitech ones, mainly because they don't have that nice tactile feel to them. Ever since they stopped the scroll wheel from clicking and went for a smoother operation I've sworn off them.

Wireless keyboard though, I've yet to find one that doesn't have some problem or another - mainly because I'm used to seeing caps/num lock lights on the keyboard itself and not having to look on a receiver or on the screen. Besides, you can work without a mouse but if you run out of batteries for your keyboard you can't do much but shut down the PC

I'm a big fan of Cherry keyboards for the mechanism (as well as the built-in USB ports on the back) but my advice is to go and try one in a store if you can - try a few as you'll be using it everyday and you'll need something comfortable. Logitech and Microsoft make really nice boards - I guess it's just personal preference for the layout of the keys and how responsive the board feels to you.

Been using an MX1000 for a week now, replacing an MS Explorer (version 3). Highly recommended, extremely smooth control of cursor. For serious gaming I'd go with a corded mouse though (not that I have any problems with this one, but am not that serious).

MX1000 is a very good mouse. ANd only cheap cordless keyboards eat batteries, ive had the one from a desktop mx for nearly 2 years now and changed the batteries once.

herulach, as in had to buy new rechargeables right? Cause my MX700 & MX900 need 'fresh' rechargeables every week or so (I don't use the dock for recharging)

Yes. Unless gaming is ALL you do, but it's fantastic for that too and as you say you do lots of things. The range and build quality is the best i have seen. You can get a bundle with a keyboard too (See the user reviews forum) but personally i don't much like Logitechs keyboards. They are far to big and have loads of buttons i never use. If you are right handed, get an MX1000.

If your not using the charger and your putting rechargeable batteries in your mouse then youre absolutely mad, they will run just fine of alkalines.

But no, i mean in the keyboard from my desktop mx.

Yes, the MX1000 is that good, I've got two of them now.

Definitely an unfair advantage in CoD online

I use a charger, a better one than the dock, it gives me a day or so more usage before the batteries go flat. More usefully though it means the batteries get used in all kinds of things, digital camera, lights etc. which should be better for the batteries, as they're not locked into just one discharge cycle.

Logitech have new mouses coming out, I think it's called the G5 and G7.

Edit: that should be "mice" as in plural.

Yeah, but by the looks of them they are just painted MX500s/Mx700s, with a slightly different button layout.

I like my MX700 (although it is a bit heavy). I'm left handed but MX700 fits my hand somehow, wondering if MX1000 is as "balanced" as MX700?

My MX700 needs fresh batteries every 3 days (3 days until warning light comes up, coz I'm using it 10 hrs a day).
