    Question Who do i trust

Ok My Bios and another Win Based Utility Can track my CPU Temp.

My bios registers 56 degrees Celcius... but this programs registers 33 degrees celcius... this is a Gigabyte 7n400 pro2 MOBO... which should i believe.

the win utitlity is called "Sisoft Sandra".. recomended by Austin... seems to be a great proggy... how would i know which one is accurate.. i have heard of people having problems with the accuracy of the bios...

    Thanks...

Sandra sometimes gets the Northbridge and CPU round the wrong way, and it would make sense for the NB to be 33 and the cpu to be 56 degrees.

In my personal apinion your system should run ok at that temperature but upgrading to a new cpu fan that would bring it down to say mid 30s mite be a worthwhile investment.

temp sensors in ur moby wont be calibrated, so it could be 10 degrees higher or lower than real temp.

i flashed bios on an asus board the other day and temps went from high 60's to low 30's :s (on the reference setup)

The most accurate method available to us mortals is the readings from the BIOS closely followed by the sw that (should) come with your mobo (and is specifically for your exact mobo). Even so it is only good for a rough guide and more to tell you how much impact running an extra fan or better HSF has. As a rough guide AMD CPUs tend to be stable up to 60'C or so but regardless if you're stable then you're stable and don't worry.

I've had problems with Sandra listing the wrong temps before - it's just a case of them being mixed up, in my case the system temp was listed as the cpu temp and vice versa.

theres an article at bittech on making an IC2 bus compatable cpu diode reader, that'd be the most accurate i imagine, though i use a £3.99 temp sensor from maplin

Is the system stable at those temperatures? If so, why bother worrying about the temps? The only time temps are good for is when you've bought a new HSF, fans or do some mods within the case to see if these factors have had any affect.

Exacly ... I don't look at my temperatures - I check my fan speeds!

If it crashes, then look into it but if its stable whats it matter if its at 35C or 60C ... its still stable!
