Seagate SATA HDD locking and beeping ?

My Seagate 300GB SATA HDD has recently been giving me a headache

It started off with an occasional beeping from the drive when I powered the system and now it has become much worse locking the system up and beeping constantly......

Trouble is the original supplier wants me to run a diagnostic on the drive and get a definate answer as to whats wrong with it before they will swap it.

As always they couldnt re-create the fault when they tested it, they wont have tested it as far as using it everyday like I have been so I didnt doubt that they would try and pull this on me

The only trouble is when i run seagates diagnostic utility most times it goes through ok and when it finally locks up so does the diagnostic program so I never get an answer as to whats wrong

So long story short does anyone know what is wrong with a seagate drive when it starts beeping

    Thanks peeps

Could be many things causing that.

Does the drive's bleep sound like a click, and then it makes a sound as if its spinning up?

If it is I would think a loose connection somewhere in the power cable. Try a different cable...

If its actually a bleep, like from a pc's internal speaker, that is made by the spindle motor. Dont know what it means, except its probably bad.

If its acctually a bleep, like from a pc's internal speaker, then Im quite sure the only part in a hdd that can make a bleep like that is the spindle motor. not sure how the spindle motor makes bleepy nioses, or what they mean, only that it can.
Your computer might not be stable. My Seagate 300G did have data "fake" corruption if my system is not stable.

Maxtor harddrives DOES have speakers in them, and I did hear it "sing" a few times. May be seagate does too.

Try using another SATA port, see will that help.

you can monitor the status of the HD with S.M.A.R.T. goto bios to enable it.
once is on. you can use this program to check status:

if you see status "is bad" this mean you need to RMA the HDD.
