    Problem with my Dell 2000FP

Argh! i have a problem with my Dell 20.1 TFT.

at a res of 1600x1200 it's showing either faint blue vertical lines or bright red ones! if i drop the res to 1200x1024 the lines disapear. this monitor has been working for the best part of a year with out any issues.

At first i thought it was my GFX card as i've been over clocking it, so i connected up my Digi Dice system and still the lines are showing. i've tried both DVI and D-SUB and it still doesn't make a difference, also the DVI was a pure DVI connection - rather than going through a converter.

Has any one seen this kind of fault before on a TFT and can it be cured?

    Hi,

Personally when I get any kind of Monitor problem like that the first thing I do is try to get a replacement from the Manufacturer or Retailer. They always like to mention the three year next day replacement guarantee they have so I often take them up on it!

The only time i've seen a problem like the one you described is when the screen has been physically damaged and then the lines are permanent, the fact that they dissappear at a lower res I think still suggests there is a problem lies with the monitor.

I guess for the ultimate test you should try another screen on the same video card and see what result you get ?

But like I say, I would almost certaintly speak to the manufacturer about it and see what they can offer.

    Thanks

    Andrew

well i;ve now tried the screen on 3 systems and it shows the same faint green/blue lines or bright red lines.

Dell wont touch me unless i have a service TAG number which this monitor doesn't have

Monitors from Dell do not have service tag numbers.

Did you buy the monitor from Dell? If so give them the serial number and they will be able to replce it using that.

If you bought it from another retailer then state who and we will advise where you lie with the warranty.

A friend had one of these monitors with picture quality issues and the problem was with the cabling. Have you tried on DSUB (normal) and DVI cables. Low quality DVI cables can cause interference
