I'm preffering it over the full copper due to reduced weight and approx the same performance in all but the hottest systems.

firstly, how are u running your system? Are u running any overclocks? If yes, the Zalman's AlCu may not have enuf cooling capacity to tame the CPU..

There are other similarly priced coolers which are much better than the AlCu variant. Gigabyte 3D Rocket Cooler Pro or a vanilla XP-90 are priced pretty similar..
    Me want Ultrabook

Don't take the Zalman bashing too seriously... A 2.6Ghz Northwood ought to be fine with the 7000 AlCu and the fan on minimum - it's still near silent and a safer bet than running passive in most cases - pun intended (i.e. does your case have enough cooling to be able run the CPU passive?). I used to have an XP2400+ running at 2.4 (real) GHz and 1.95V and if a Zalman 7000 AlCu can keep that cool enough your 2.6GHz Northwood should be no problem... The Thermalright XP-120 / XP-90 / XP-90C would probably perform a bit better but they are more expensive (especially if you don't have a suitable fan) and I don't think the difference is worth it if you aren't overclocking (~£20 for the Zalman and more like £40 for any of the Thermalrights if you have to buy a fan to go with them)

Good price for the 7000s (AlCu and Cu):

No offence but it *might* be time to upgrade that gfx card

How awful is the PSU? It's not a Q-Tec is it?

I've had no CPU cooling problems with a Zalman AlCu on minimum, and liked its quietness so much that I bought another for my 2nd machine. The one thing that caused me a problem with that was that the unusual mounting style didn't suit that particular motherboard, so a friend is now very happy with it instead.

The fact is that zalman dont make the actual sinks them selves.

They are inported from another company, Zalman then add one of there own fans and the hold down mechanism (and of course their lable).

You can find one of the original sinks that Zalman themselves recieve for around £10 (instead of £30 - not bad). And yes i have both a alzamn copper flower and one of these and they are identical in everyway (except the fan).

Ebuyer, used to sell these directly imported form japan, not sure if they still do, i heard zlamna put a stop to it.

Got any links / pics? I know there are a couple of clone HSFs out there but didn't think they were the same as the Zalman (just copies of it)

Ebuyer were selling the coolers from the following company

    http://www.pccooler.cn/english-www/p...product_0.html

I bought the copper/alu one and can use a 80, 90 or 120mm fan with it. Either the temp reading on my motherboard is wrong or the XP2400 is kept nice and cool by the cooler.
