Artic Cooling Freezer 64

hello :)

i'm just wondering if anyone has a Artic Cooling Freezer 64 HSF.... if so how good are they ?

is it worth getting one from default temps of 27 degrees c on idle & 33-36 degrees c when busy ?

Those temps are very good anyway, I'm not sure if you would see much of an improvement unless you moved onto extreme water cooling or phase-change.

What HSF are you currently using?

my current HSF is reference HSF :P (silver HS-80mm fan)

my cpu - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ,SKT 754

the main reason i get good temps is possibly that i scrubbed off the thermal pad and used some Akasa 450 5g silver Thermal compound ;)

Yeh the Akasa paste certainly helps. They are still very very good temps for standard air cooling. I wouldn't bother buying a new HSF unless the reference one is too noisy for ya.

Just in case you want someone seconding iMC's opinion - if it isn't noisy stick with what you are using.

I have used one of the Arctic 64 Freezer's and you have to undervolt to around 5-7v to reduce noise.

I had one, it was fine until the fan just packed up for no reason...

hmmm are those reading of the motherboard sensor? If it is it might not be correct as those sensors are not very accurate, i have a 3000+, 754 in an antec sonata and my temps are 35 c (idle) and ~ 50c (busy) in an abit kv8 pro motherboard.

If those readings are accurate they're really impressive. For an inexpensive cooler the Freezer 64 and it's P4 equivalent are a good compromise on price, cooling and silence pretty much like the first car you get offered in racing games that doesn't do any one thing well or badly. That said, they're not particularly quiet (low noise but at a higher pitch than you'd expect) and they're only a few degrees cooler than stock. If you like the stock cooler keep it - you've easily got one over the Freezer 64.

well off the Mobo sensors yes and the BIOS temps as well read the exact same ;)

As long as the temps aren't hugely inaccurate, your computer is stable and your happy with noise levels then why bother spending the extra... :)

What I would recommend is slightly overclock your chip and see what temps it goes up to. If you get a heatpipe type heatsink your potential overclock will increase, but I cant see them getting any lower that what your already getting! My room temp is 28 degrees and your chip is cooler than that when idle! heh

If you think his readings are dodgy, my AV8's new BIOS reports my CPU to be running only at 21C with C'n'Q.. ambient's 20C.. How corny is that?!

i did have it overclocked before my hard drive went KerPlunk,i used Nforce chipset utility nTune...

i managed to over clock my AGP bus speed by 75Mhz and increase my FSB from 2009Mhz (default clocked speed) to 2220.4Mhz ,thats faster than a 3200+ isnt it ?


it might also help why i get good temps cos i have loads of fans...
1x 120MM front case fan
2x 80MM Back case fan
1x 80MM side panel case fan
plus the fans on my Hiper PSU- 1x 80mm facing HSF,1 x 80mm facing cd-rom bays,1x 80mm out of case

i've tried for different temp readings... SpeedFan,nTune monitor,Si-soft Sandra and my case CPU temp display, all readings are the same ;)
