Hey guys
First I'd like to thank this forum for the speedy replies to my posts regarding power supplies and the Asus A8N SLi and the machine not booting, without the replies I probably wouldn't be showing you this.
Ignoring the (non existant) camera skills, here she is.
Spec wise; it consists of an Athlon 4000+, 1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 C2, Asus A8N SLi board, Leadtek stock 7800GTX 256mb, Maxtor DiamondMax 200gb SATA HDD, Akasa PaxPower UltraQuiet 400w PSU housed in a ThermalTake Armor Black case.
It is cooled by two 120mm fans, one at the front taking air in and one at the rear blowing out. Then there's a fan over the hard drive, a fan at the top of the case taking air right out upwards, a Gigabyte Cooler 3D Pro over the CPU and then the stock fans on the motherboard and the 7800GTX.
The reason I post this is because I need you guys to tell me if my spec, at stock, is underperforming. I'd also like people to tell me how I can get more FPS for my buck out of this system, by overclocking and tweaking, that is within reach of air cooling.
All of these results are stock, no tweaking, just Windows XP Pro SP2 with the nVidia 77.77 drivers and DirectX 9.0c with the nForce drivers that came with the board, no updates there yet.
3DMark tests @ 1024 x 768
In 3DMark 2001 SE it achieved 25,200 marks.
In 3DMark 2005 Build 2 it called in at 7650 marks.
HardOCP Half Life 2 benchmark @ 1280 x 1024 2xAF
Resolution: 1280×1024
Demo: HardwareOC - Coast
Detail: Maximum quality
Antialising mode: From System
Filtering mode: Anisotropic 2×
Hardware DirectX level: DirectX 9
Heapsize: 64 MB - default
Fast Z: Disabled
Score = 96.9 FPS
That's about all I've done up to now.
Hows it looking? Good / Shabby / Should be better / Crap?
I overclocked my old P4 3.0ghz on an ABit IC7-G, but something about doing it on an Athlon 64 with an unfamiliar BIOS leaves me worrying about trying to get this OCd. I'd be glad if any of you could convince me / help me get from 2.4ghz to 2.6ghz safely [
].
Signing off, Mike.
