    Moving RAID drives between computers?

    Basic question, but probably one nobody knows the answer to!

    If you have two raid drives, say on a computer on a Silicon Image RAID driver, and you put the in another, with a different mobo, using an Nvidia RAID driver, would they still be able to read the files on them? Or are the gonners...?

    Then I suppose, what about if they're bootable drives?

    no can do im afraid, the different chips use different RAID 'profiles' to ensure incompatability :/

    ohh, so I need to get my drives working again on a nvidia driver, probably that which is on the same kind of mobo, and then get the files off them before putting them into a different computer.

    If it was just moving nVidia RAID to another motherboard with nVidia RAID there wouldn't be much of a problem, its when you try to migrate between different RAID types then things go balls up.

    Youd be lucky to even migrate between the two controllers on one motherboard. Although may have some luck moving to the same controller on another board, back up lots first.
