AGP - Is it gonna die soon?

I know AGP is being phased out by PCI-E - but when will AGP actually go the way of ISA?

Not sure. By the way, Asus made a socket 478 mobo with PCI-E (the P4GD1) so your northwood can still be paired up with PCI-E gfx.

If you want the latest gfx cards, you must buy a pcie board. If you don't, then agp will be around for a few more years yet.

PCI graphics cards are still being manufactured even though they were superceded by AGP many years ago - was it 6 years ago? This gives some sort of idea of how long AGP will be around.

don't forget folks, that many of the new GPU's that are being released are only on PCI-E possibly due to power and bandwidth requirements so it is worth swapping over if you have the chance

Don't forget that PCI slots are still in most modern computers. AGP wasn't a complete replacement for PCI, whereas PCI Express is AGP's replacement.

so are you advising me to get a PCI-E compatible mobo and get a PCI-E GFX card? I was planning on getting a 6600gt.

PCI-E was supposed to replace both AGP and PCI though
