new system help shuts down :S

ive just built a new pc its a
3700 a64 san
asus a8n pre
1024 corsair value ram
xfx 6800gt 256mb gpu
hiper 580 watt psu

it shuts down by its self when in hl2 and 3dmark and once or twice on its own at idle
ive tired formating, bio's updates, clearing the bios, a new psu, different ram, and it still does it im tottaly out of ideas

help plz

Overheating perhaps, what are your temperatures like?

You could try reseating the heatsink and making sure that the thermal paste is providing good contact.

sounds like a classic thermal problem to me... OS is refusing to operate with faulty readings.. or u just really screwed up that HSF position..

cpu temp load: 42
gpu idle : 50
gpu load : 61

OS problem then.. but just to be safe.. get a new rev and flash that BIOS as well... then format and reinstall XP.. should fix the problem..

it seems to work fine in normal browsing and stuff but the minuite i use anythign that needs decent graphics it shuts dowen after less then 15 mins

how are you getting thsoe tempratures? on board monitors?

check the temps with an actual thermal probe, sounds like overheating to me.

may also be a graphics card problem, as it has erors when going into 3D...got a spare gfx card lying around? try ti out.

i dotn ahve another gpu atm to try
the temps seem about accurate the temp probe says readings within 10 degrees

Hmm could you try underclocking the gpu? Perhaps if it is stable with the gpu underclocked then you could get an rma going.

100C+... 6800GTs only shuts down when it exceeds its thermal envelope around 100C+
