Hi all
anyone know if 512meg card make a diff in doom3 ultra settings to the in game graphics.

Not sure about ultra settings but it doesn't make that much of a difference with high quality. See here (without AA and AF) or here (with 4x AA and 8x AF). One or two frames at most. I will have a look for tests done at ultra settings, but i don't think it'll make much difference.

The only game i know of so far that will actually take advantage of 512Mb cards is the Unreal 3 engine due out sometime next year.

Found some benchmarks at Ultra quality. The difference between 512Mb and 256Mb on the x800 xl is 5fps max.

256Mb vs 512Mb

With a such a small difference in doom 3 (and other games), and the extra cost being £50, imo its not worth it. Spend the extra on a x850 xt.

it will make very little/no difference. If you play Doom 3 a fair bit you may as well get a 6800gt, they are better than x800xls in doom 3

the extra 256MB of samsung ddr3 would cost u a 7800GT.. just get the 7 series and stay eternally grateful you didnt fell for such a lame gimmick..
